Microsoft released a CRITICAL update for IE6 on feb. 11th, you can get it via this site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/q316059/default.asp

I waited to get it, just to see how long it would take for windowsupdate site to show it. I also know that ie didn't update itself because checking the about ie under help doesn't show 316059 as one of its updated versions. So I make it til today, when I decide that Microsoft has went way beyond reasonable time. They released the patch on the 11th, yet on the 14th the windowsupdate site still does not list the CRITICAL update, which is a vulnerability patch. So I figured I'd be polite and let everyone know about the security patch, especially for thoses that only use the windowsupdate site, because lord knows how long it will take microsloft to get to it, probably to busy suing someone over a name issue.

    This update applies to:

    Internet Explorer 6.
    Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2.
    Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1.
Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2 on Windows 2000 only.

Either that or they are too busy *promoting* that they now regard user security as of upmost importance. Ironic.

rotflmao, so it takes them what about 4 days to get it the windowsupdate site from their official release date. Excellent security measures there.

    LOL.

  5. Noticed that too, they never send their security updates to their windows updates page, you have to rely on places like Techtv to inform you of security problems. but hey thats microsoft.

well I started using a service called bigfix, its free http://www.bigfix.com/, and signed up for the fixcentral and etc from them, which are free. Only because its easier to have them notify me instead of spending a bunch of time keeping on eye out for this stuff, which they did about the ie patch at 12:02am on feb 12th, which is faster then microsoft did, though I already knew about it by that point. Its funny when you have to rely on either you keeping track of the fixes or having a third party company keep track of them. If you relied on microsoft, you would be screwed. 4 days before it showed up on windowsupdate is not acceptable to me.

  7. I lerned something a long time ago, the windows&internet world is like the Wild wild west, in that you cant rely on the sheriff(microsoft) to protect you, you must depend on your reflexes and your six shooter(firewall)
