connection question

hello, i was at best buy today and was going to buy component cables for our wii when the guy working at the games department told me it wasn't worth buying since the wii only puts out 480p.
my question is, is it worth buying the cables or not? i didn't think that composite put out 480p. then again, i'm still really new to the 480/720/1080 i/p world..
