Hi, I had to get a new tower so I got this one:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-Elite-m9402f-Desktop-m9402f/sem/rpsm/oid/22...oductDetail.do
I used to use Decrypter w/DVD43 to rip one uncut VOB from a DVD then I'd edit & convert to mpeg in VideoReDo & used ULead DMF 3 to burn.
It appears Decrypter & DMF3 won't work in Vista. I've read that though ULead claims newer version (6 & 7?) of DMF are Vista compatible consumer reviews I've come across say they don't.
I downloaded AnyDVD & CloneDVD since they seem to work in Vista (& I like how it also removes the region coding as well as the copy protection) but it doesn't have an option to make a menu (unless I make an exact copy which I don't want to do) & it won't allow me to rip one long VOB to work with (I'd prefer to do this because if I join VOB's you can hear/see cuts where they were merged on playback), unless these features appear when my trial version is over & I buy it but it does seem to be fully functional throughout the trail version so far anyways.
Windows DVD Maker (which came with the tower) does include a menu but it assumes you want a motion menu and I don't (since it seems to take forever to burn the disc if I have a motion menu and it automatically re-encodes the mpeg too).
So, can anyone recommend (to a novice)... :
1. A ripper that will allow me to rip one long VOB, and...
2. A burner which will allow me to add a NON-motion menu w/chapters?
Both of these need to be Vista compatible of course too.
Thanks in advance.![]()

You can open all the main movie vobs as one from the dvd using videoredo( http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/showthread.php?t=5709 ). And run anydvd in the background and it will decrypt the video automatic or if you want something free then use dvdfab decrypter to rip the movie to your hdd and import with videoredo.

I assume you are performing some sort of editing on the video, if not, you are copying them the hard way.
