I'm trying to learn to use AVI.NET. All seemed to be going OK until I clicked START. A few seconds later the program terminated with a runtime error from windows. Anybody have any ideas what happened and how to fix it?

I have recently installed a new HDD and spent some time allowing XP to upgrade itself so I should have whatever is current. Is there a "wrong" version of .NET?Originally Posted by guns1inger

Interesting. The author mentions the need for .NET on his website but goes on to say that the remedy is to update. I'll give it a try tonight. I'm at work now. Thanks.Originally Posted by guns1inger

Surprisingly my .net files were out of date. I downloaded 2.0 & 3.0 and instaslled them. They were the only ones available. Unfortunately the runtime error remains. Any thoughts?Originally Posted by ram16

Try opening Windows Update and see if any .Net updates/service packs are available.
Edit: http://www.microsoft.com/net/Download.aspx also seems to have 1.1 and 3.5 available. I'd recommend seeing if Windows Update has any updates for the versions of .Net you have installed and whether or not that helps first, though. Better to not install all the available versions of .Net unless it's absolutely necessary.

Windows Update is how I installed versions 2.0 & 3.0. As of yesterday that was the latest available, however I see what you mean at the link you furnished. I will install it and see if it helps. the only thing the author says is to keep your computer current.Originally Posted by Ai Haibara

Sometimes windows update needs to be run more than once as it cannot install all available updates at once as some have prerequisites. It more than likely informed you of this.

Yes, I'm aware of this. I want back to Update and there were none available so I went direstly to the .NET page and downloaded 3.5. It didn't help.Originally Posted by citanool
