My brother has a Acer Aspire 5312 where the screen does not light up does anyone know how to fix this? When I plug it to my monitor the laptop plays but the screen does not come on with or without it connected to a monotor.

  2. Go to Control Panel>Power Options and make sure the monitor doesn't turn off.If that doesn't help the backlight is burned out, time for a new laptop.

The Inverter Board that powers the Backlight is shorted. This is a very common problem with LCD monitors. If you are handy with electronics, then this is a fairly easy item to replace, and the Inverter is fairly cheap when you buy the correct 1 for your laptop in eBay. I recently replaced 2 of these on some laptops that I picked up very cheap because of the same problem.

The Inverter is inside the display unit and usually has 2 plug in connectors - 1 for the lamp and 1 for the power - no soldering.

You really must be handy with taking apart and repairing electronics, otherwise you will damage the unit.

OK - then you should be able to do this. Basically, you have to get inside the screen assembly - usually a few screws to open it up, but you may have to take it off the laptop to separate the front bezel. it may be accessible then, but it also could be mounted behind the LCD.
