I'm looking for a effect that I can add to a video I'm working on that simulates an old film projector that's starting up. I would like to add this effect to the start of the video and it would only last a second or two. Sorry, I'm not sure the exact terminology of this.

Also, I would like to find some type of sound effect application that would allow me to add sounds to the video. Actually, just generate the sounds and I'd then add them in in after effects.

I'm using a new Mac Pro dual quad but also have a few wintel boxes running xp pro and xp pro x64.

    Thank you in advance,
    Joe

You add sounds in your editor (or I guess After Effects, although that isn't ideal). Sound Effects generators are for creating unreal noises or test tones. If you want real effects you have to record them or download recorded effects. There are plenty of free libraries around if you google. Use and audio editor to combine or edit the sounds before.

    Thanks again guys!

Is there a plug-in for after effects that simulates an old projector starting up - the odd flicker that occurs?

Use the brightness/contrast effect and add a wiggler to the brightness setting. Play around with the variance on the wiggler until you get a nice flicker effect.
