  1. My capture card is: ATI All in Wonder 128 Pro
    I have tried VirtualDub 1.4d & 1.4.5
This is what I get when I try to capture AVI file:

Video Driver-AMC peripheral not found AMC peripheral or cabling may be improperly installed.
VirtualDub capture error-Error 418:Capture device was not detected
VitualDub Error-VirtualDub cannot connect to the desired capture driver. Trying all available drivers.
VitualDub Error-PANIC:VirtualDub cannot connect to any capture device.

    Thankyou

  2. you're using the new (crappy) WDM drivers. either get drivers 4.12.6292 or install the WDM-VFW wrapper. in 98/98SE/ME install webtv and uninstall it. or get old drivers and install only the wdmvfw.inf section of them (right click on that file)

  3. I have had the same problem with running VirtualDUB. Tried both versions also. Have same error message: capture device not detected. Running/capturing with ASUSLive with no apparent problems related to this driver (yet) .

    Have the following:

    msvfw32.dll 4.10.1998
    vfwwdm32.dll 4.10.2222
    vfwwdm.drv 4.10.2222

Could you give more info about 4.12.6292 drivers you referenced or specify which older drivers and where they can be had?

If this has been discussed elsewhere, I apppologize...

first, make sure you registered the files into the registry. just copying them into the windows\system directory won't cut it. that's why i said to use the vfwwdm.inf file to install.

the 4.12.6292 drivers are for the ATI aiw 128 pro, not the asus cards. if you have win98, i think you can get the wrapper by installing & uninstalling webtv

  6. patrickm....I did not copy these files into my system folder, however, the only file I see referenced in the registry is:

    vfwwdm.drv

    Should the others:

    msvfw32.dll 4.10.1998
    vfwwdm32.dll 4.10.2222

be there also? If so, how would I do this?

Also, to Stinky: which capture card are you using? Does the wrapper affect any other "currently functioning" programs ???

    ASUS GEForce2 gts

    OS w98se

  7. I installed it blindly (not that I'm reccommending you do that) on my w2k system

the only thing I noticed was that I could now capture with VirtualDub --- nothing else was affected

  8. After "looking in the wrapper" it seems I do have versions of these drivers, but virtualdub cannot see them????

    vfwwdm32.dll 4.10.2222
    vfwwdm.drv 4.10.2222

Is this right? And if so, how can I make vdub find them? Since the ASUSLive program is functioning, along w/Pinnacle Studio7, I hate to install more new drivers unless necessary!

    Thanks,
    kristin

  9. That smoke you smell is coming from my ears. I understood install and uninstall WebTV and that did not work (thanks anyways PatrickM). I downloaded the wrappers Stinky suggested but now what do I do with them? I am a complete newbie if you have'nt alredy guessed. I tried capturing with my Media Studio Pro and I got the same message. I have had more problems with ATI and there drivers than all the other software combined. Should I try a different video and capture card or try to figure this one out. If so please suggest one.
Thanks for all the help so far.

right click on the file that ends in .inf and select install

thats all you need to do

  11. Thanks for the quick response Stinky. They loaded but VirtualDub still comes up with the same error "AMC peripheral not found". Should I put the old dll & drv files back?
    Quote Quote
  12. put the dll & drv files back where? when you use the vfwwdm.inf file to install/register the other files, you shouldn't have to move them anywhere.

what ATI drivers are you using? what OS?

ALSO, USE THE RIGHT VERSION OF THE WRAPPER. files for winNT/2K will have version #'s like 5.x.xxxxx and ones for win95/98/98SE/ME will have 4.x.xxxx or 4.9.xxxx (generally for 98SE/ME but not critical either way). if you don't use the right set they don't make the right function calls and may not work right, or may work poorly

if after this you still get a NO AMC peripheral, i think you installed the drivers wrong. check your device manager and make sure no components of the ATI card have yellow (!)'s on them.

  13. Thanks Patrick. One of my ATI devices was yellow so I reinstalled the ATI drivers and it works now. I told you I was a rookie, no answer is too simple.

  14. I am not sure the Microsoft wrapper will work. This is because Microsoft says in W98 it works only for capture devices on USB or 1394. See page below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q192/1/12.ASP

I have the same problem: installed the 2 vfwwdm files in the C\windows\system directory and Virtualdub will not see them.

So, I am still looking for a wrapper for my AIW128Pro.

    Uhhh...

This might be kinda stupid... If so, just ignore me or throw a rock at me or something

I had the same problem of VirtualDub still not working with my ATI card even after installing Stinky's wrapper... Heh... But that was my fault because during the installation, I was asked if I wanted to replace a newer version of a driver with an older one and I said no. Once I re-installed and selected yes, VirutalDub started working perfectly...

Another thing is that you need to go into the Video Source menu under Video. The first pull down menu should have identified your card, but the second pull down menu will be empty. Here you need to select whether you're using a Composite, Tuner, or S-Video input. Once you select the appropriate one you should be in business

  16. I installed Stinky's wrapper and now I am able to capture with Virtualdub, AVI-IO etc. Thanks Stinky !

All this was to see if using this configuration (WDM driver with VfW capturing programs) would get rid of my artifacts. In fact it didn't ! I'll post a new message here, my previous one had no replies !

yeah, that's what i meant about making sure you install the right versions. when i reformatted my drive, somehow i ended up with versions 5.x.xxx of the ks*.ax drivers in winME. even though the 5.xx ones are actually older, they have a higher number by virtue of being for the NT kernel.

  18. i got the wrapper
    and i have vfwwdm32.dll
    vfwwdm.inf
    vfwwdm.drv

when i install the inf like you guys said it says cannot locate the first file (vfwwdm32.dll) and its in the zip or is t in the ati folder somewhere

i have win2k so the link at stinky gave is it the right link for win2k??
im really dumb can someone go step by step on how to install the wrapper ;x
