I recently bought The Dark Knight regular DVD and it refuses to playback on my LG DR787T DVD recorder. I can get it to play on my computer and an older DVD player.

Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

I ran into this issue as well. LG has a firmware update on their support web site that adds parental control features, but it also fixes this problem. I wrote a blog post about it here: http://mkokotovich.blogspot.com/2009/02/lg-dr787t-dark-knight-playback-issues.html

Well, that didn't work. The DVD player was marked "November, 2007". The upgrades were for "October, 2007". Neither one worked. I have already exchanged the disc at the retailer, so I don't think it's the disc per say.

    Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Well that stinks! So to recap, I assume that your LG player/recorder can play other DVDs? The Dark Knight disc has been returned once and plays on your computer and another DVD player. You've updated to the latest firmware on the LG website (probably unnecessary given the date of your recorder, but I would definitely do it in case the firmware on your recorder is corrupt somehow).

If all of this is true, I don't really understand what could be going on. You must have a somewhat defective recorder.

Well, one last possibility, kind of a long shot but which DVD did you get? Just doing a quick search, I found a long list of different DVDs http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=The%20Dark%20Knight&index=dvd&page=1
I would assume they all have the same copyright protection scheme that is giving problems, but at this point I don't have any other ideas. I have the widescreen single disc dvd.

This is the first disc I have had problems with. I have had the DVR for about 6 months. Ghost Rider was OK, as are many of my older disc. (I have not run all of them threw the player yet.) I will have to look at the LG site for the LATEST firmware. I have actually downgraded from the November to October firmware.

The disc is the single, wide screen version I bought at Target. It says there is a disc error, so I don't think it's a V-chip, parental block setup problem.
