Hi and thanks to anyone who's willing/able to help me on this one.

I was having problems with my old ffmpegX after having downgraded from OSX.5 to OSX.4. It would run through the encoding process but no encoded file could be found. I decided to delete the old ffmpegX components, including the ffmpegX folder in HD/Libraries/Application Support and start from scratch. I downloaded the ffmpeg_0.0.9y installer and the necessary codecs and installed them on ffmpegX.

When I tried to convert a .flv file to .mp4 I got no progress bar and a window asking which program to use for something to do with 'Progress'. I checked the new HD/Libraries/Application Support/ffmpegX folder and noticed that something I'd seen in there before called Adobe Acrobat or something was missing so I selected Adobe Acrobat 7.0 from my applications and the progress bar returned. The conversion completed but this time the same file which wouldn't work before now came up with 'failed' in the progress bar.

Below is the information from the progress bar.
Should I have selected a different application to run the progress bar?
Any suggestions about what the problem might be?

I forgot to say...Though choosing Adobe Acrobat 7.0 seemed to solve the problem with the progress bar not appearing the HD/Libraries/Application Support/ffmpegX folder doesn't show anything to do with Adobe in it now even though it did before.

Some users that also had that "Where is Progress.app?" message, pointed it to ffmpegX itself, as Progress.app is an application inside the ffmpegX program package.

Acrobat is unrelated to ffmpegX, so this seems wrong, but I see that Progress.app was still activated. Hmm, quite forgiving, /me thinks...

mencoder/mplayer seem unable to read the video codec used in the FLV file. FLV files can have one of a variety of video codecs, H.263 being very common (and well supported by ffmpegX), but others can be found, like On2 VP6.
I would suggest installing Perian (a QuickTime decoder component, which supports many FLV flavors), then converting in ffmpegX with an ffmpeg preset (not mencoder) and activate 'Decode with Quicktime' in the Options tab.
