Up in one of your posts, you said yt will give you the HQ (or HD) link depending on what source you upload. What source do I need to use to get the HQ link?

flash version is "You have version 10,0,2,54 installed"
as for what gets HQ and HD links. here's my take.
HD - anything above 720p with greater than 5mbps bitrate
HQ - anything between 480p and 720i with a high enough bitrate. maybe 5mpbs also.
i can't be more specific as i couldn't possibly test all variables.--

Yep, installed Flash 10 and clicked your link with the fmt=22 and the Watch in Normal Quality link immediately appeared...note the high speed setting was checked in settings, so it looks like for HD, one needs either high speed setting forced, or a high speed setting automatically selected, and Flash 10.
BTW, the quality was much much better.

OK, so I am going to summarize this for my own, and other's sake.
Connection speeds and settings seems to be irrelevant...link appearance seems to be dependent upon the Flash versions:
Flash 7 gets the SD (normal quality) flv only, and no links.
Flash 8 and 9 will get HQ if available, and SD.
Flash 10 will get SD, HQ, and/or HD where applicable depending on encoding which is base on aedipuss's recommendations in this thread. -
Oh, that's good...I wonder why my other system with Flash 9 didn't get the HD?
I think I might have found it...according to this link:
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/9/releasenotes.html
Fixes and improvements in Adobe Flash Player 9 Update 3, Version 9.0.115.0 - HD is supported.
Perhaps Flash 9 before 9.0.115.0, HD is not supported. -
Here is a version tester:

My other system had version 9.0.45.0 -
I have a question about the HD link...what size does YT display its HD video at? It is true 1920x1080? Or does it take 1280x720 and resize to 640x360 and call that HD?
-
the 1280x720p vids i have uploaded have been made into 1280x720p mp4 with aac audio by youtube for the HD version. on the first page of this thread there is a mediainfo screenshot of a downloaded HD link video.

Instead of upscaling SD content, why not just take a 640x480 SD clip and overlay it on black (or a background image) that is 1280x720P? Then you will get the 2mbps video and great audio at a size larger than they currently allow for SD.

why bother when upscaling works quite well, quick, easy and ends up with decent video - by youtube standards anyway.
