IVTC Avenues--A while back I started trying to decode the Voyager; DS9; and TNG time compressions but got side-tracked with other priorities. It would be great once and for all to decode these for better (encoding) archiving purposes. Well, I know I'd like to watch them as progressive frames instead of telecine, and I don't really like those complicated ivtc/deinterlacers algos. Perhaps one day I'll take a stab at it again--i was close to figuring it out before I veared off course. Maybe I'll make that a new years resolution, yeah..maybe.

@number six - thanks for the details there.

Deep Space Nine grew on me. It is not my favorite by a long shot. But its hard not to like the feuding between Quark and Odo. Or the back and forth mystery stuff between Garak and Bashir. It took awhile to get into it but I did like it.

I was most interested in the changeling (founders) storylines. One of them stuck me for some time (mostly because I never did get the connection to it all, in the end of that ep) where Odo lost his ability (was taken from him at the great link, in another episode) and there was a another (I think it was blue in color) type changeling. It was very small and had special qualities. I think Dr. Bashire (spelling) was studying it with Odo. Anyway. In the *surprising* end of that episode, Odo had received his special abilities (shape shifting) back. It was pretty emotional to me to enjoy. I was very happy for him.

I never did get that part, how and why he got it back. I mean. They didn't go into it all it. It was wrote off as a gift and that was the end. Anyone have any comments to that ?

Broken Link - last episode of season 4 - the founders made Odo human as a punishment for killing another shapeshifter.

The Begotten - midway season 5 - Odo buys a sick infant changeling from Quark. Bashir heals it and Odo tries to raise it and starts to teach it. Unfortunately, it gets sick again and is dying. While Odo is holding the dying changeling, as it dies it merges with Odo in gratitude - restoring his abilities - that was it's gift to Odo.

I remembered both episodes, but had to do some digging to get the specifics.

You guys are really making me work for it :P

Wow. I had forgotten that, and you raised it up again in full detail. Now I remember it all Thanks! Yeah. It was a great episode after all, and still sad, too. Too bad they took all franchise off my cable. It was only a few years ago when they use to air them every day, back to back. Amazing how we put things off too late.

@vhelp - do you still have SPIKE? I think they were still airing some Star Trek shows.

I believe the original series is still on TV LAND.

Yes, I have Spike. Voyager and DS9 are on it, but they don't show them every day. Also, even worse, they air them at 1:00AM. So, either I record them to tape in EP mode, or I stay up to capture them using the DV codec. I much rather capture them. But, depending on episode, if I can stay up the full hour, I'll capture them completely. But I have'nt found a way a good method to time-shift-record using my computer while I sleep. Also, I have to find out *when* they are on.. and thats not so easy.

I believe they move them to CW11--airs the TOS series at 12:00AM--I captured last nights episode.

The character Trelane from The Squire of Gothos - does he remind you of an early version of a childlike Q?

ditto here on the trelaine guy. I'm sure there are documentaries somewhere officially talking about the inspiration for the character of Q.

May she RIP... I wasn't even aware that she was sick. (So much for my ST credentials.)
I met her once at a convention and it was a fluke that I was even there. We were going to a business convention and spending the night in Toledo, OH and as we were checking into the hotel, we saw a Klingon walk through the lobby. We blew off the morning sessions of the convention that we were supposed to be attending and went to the Star Trek convention instead.

I enjoyed her voice narators when used for the computer voice or story line introductions as used in many of the franchise episodes.. "last time on.."
