tech level video=newbie, cpu=intermediate..thinking on purchasing canon hf 100 vixia camcorder but i have several questions regarding conversion and burning. I want to be able to produce simple home and outdoor video on both dvd and blu ray discs. I would like any advice/input on conversion and burning software and burning hardware for my pc. Lean more toward cost effective than pro results.

That particular camcorder uses the AVCHD video format, which at this time (though the technology is improving) is a bit of a CPU hog and not very edit-friendly. It's difficult to know what kinds of affordable AVCHD editing and compatible Blu-ray authoring software will be available in a year from now, so I don't want to be too critical of AVCHD. However, for an affordable high-def format that has better software support (at least at the present moment), you might want to look at HDV. Canon also has camcorders in that format, like the HV10...or even the Vixia HV30.
