  1. I've been trying to convert an mp4 file to mpeg2 to make a DVD, but I can't seem to deinterlace it - I've tried a number of different settings in TMPGEnc, but nothing works.

    Here's the file:

If you have any ideas, please let me know!

    Thanks much,

    Mark

Why do you want to deinterlace it if your target format is DVD ?

  3. Sorry, I guess you're right - I want to interlace it. I get the terminology screwed up sometmes.

I"m getting the horizontal stripes between scene changes.

I am not going to download 480MB just to see what your problem is. If you seriously want people to help you, post a small segment of 1 - 2 MB max and you will go further.

My guess, without seeing the file, is that it was an interlaced source that has been badly resized without being correctly separated first, resulting in a damaged image that cannot be fixed.

  5. Guns1inger is correct. That video was incorrectly treated and the two fields are no longer separate. Short of removing the offending frames, there is no way to fix it.

What's interesting is that the video is mostly 23.976 film converted to 29.97 fps by duplicating every 4th frame (you can see the 6 small jerks every second). But at some transitions there are interlaced frames. The vertical resizing has caused the two fields of these interlaced frames to co-mingle.

  6. Thanks so much - it was driving me crazy! Guess I'll just have to live with it to see this great performance.

Too bad - other than that, the audio and video quality is excellent.
