    hi i have a couple of files which are x264. i used svcd2dvd to make vob files which work great on my dvd player. my question is how much video quality do i lose when converting to vob files. thanks

  2. A lot of quality is lost

    1920x1080 => 720x480 has 6x fewer pixels

    Transcoding to any lossy format makes the loss even worse

    You are going from h264 => MPEG2 which has worse compression

    And you are probably lowering the video bitrate to make it legal for DVD (<9Mbps)

    whats the best way to do this with the x264 without losing quality. also what about avchd files i can just burn the image to a dual layer correct. thanks

  4. It is impossible to not lose quality.

    There is no best way. You can try FAVC to convert, it uses HCenc which is a high quality free MPEG2 encoder.

    For AVCHD files, do you mean full HD on a blu-ray player? or DVD player?

    IF blu-ray then use tsmuxer, and burn with udf 2.50

    You can't play AVCHD on DVD players.
