i'm using this program called Super, which i've found to be fairly simple to use, and i was having troubles with other programs. anyway it gives the option to enable CABAC or not (it doesn't give an option for q setting though, hmmm). i read that it is a lossless way to compress a x264 file. my results however, using identical other settings were that the files (i used a 500MB clip to test it), were basically identical in size. i'm not quite sure of the time, but i don't believe that was much different either.
should this setting be on or off, or should i just use it when the stream already has it?? btw i'm making mkv files for use on my pc.
thx,
rlr

CABAC will increase quality for a given filesize and should be left enabled all the time except in the narrow class of cases where you're encoding for a portable device that can only use CAVLC.
