  1. Hi (and sigh!)

I don't know if there's a way to get rid of out-of-sync audio in mpeg files. I am aware that the original captured avi file from Virtualdub can be synced by using the "adjust frame rate so audio will match" option in video-direct and audio-full settings.

Problem: After I captured in Virtualdub I immediately converted the avi to mpeg using tmpg without checking first if the audio syncs!. Now after my video was burned to VCD, that was the only time I found out the problem in audio. And, making the problem worse, I have already deleted the original avi file!

Stupid me, is there a smart way to solve this probloem other than recapturing the video?

    Thanks.

That should not be a problem. Which kind of "out of sync" is it, is
1] the audio faster / slower than the video or is it
2] just a constant Audio / video delay?
For [1] we need to know the source and destination framerate.

  3. thanks,

I think after I have converted the avi thru TMPG, my frame rate s 29.70, I'll be using it for VCD mpeg1...

Do you know any application that can fix this?

    Salamat!

  4. Go get yourself a copy of VideoFactory 2.0 Use it for everything. It will capture to avi and even batch over the 4gb limit. I have converted over an hour of modified avi files to vcd compatible mpg file with not a single sound out of sync. Have followed different threads on here and some reccommend tmpge and other files. Saying there free. VideoFactory is under a 100.00 and does everything with no loss of sync. That even includes a firewire card. Sometimes free is better but for a few bucks why have all the headaches............

  5. Like Truman said first you have to identify your sync problem.
Also demux and compare the lengths of the audio and video.
You are going to have to manually edit the audio based on these things.
If this is the first time you have manually resynced a video there will be a lot of trial and error.
    Good luck

Truman, the trend I have noticed on the board is that everyone writes something like "wow - you really seem to know what you are talking about". I think this is greatly understated. YOU SEEM TO BE a subject matter expert. I on the other hand am still a newbie to the whole DVD / VCD / SVCD authoring/conversion scene. MY BACKGROUND (skip ahead unless want to put my experience in context:
I have been watching DVD and VCD on my computer for about the last 4 years. However, during that time I have only dabbled at trying to RIP video and audio - capture - mix - re-purpose and burn onto CDRW.
I recently aquired an AOPEN 16x DVD and I got serious about the task. I have done a few weeks worth of internet research and downloaded most of the free open source tools (DIVx , DVD2SVCD, TMPenc, bbmpeg, VCDGear, vstrip, etc. ) For my first project I was WILDLY excited when I took one of my favourite DVDs (Star Wars - Phantom Menace) and converted it to SVCD (x 3 CDRW) that I burned on my AOPEN 2040 using NERO 5.5.7.2 at 12x. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER using DVD2SVCD 1.06 build 1.

As my second project; I decided I wanted to burn an SVCD from a DVD source music concert video I have that came with my standalone DVD/SVCD/VCD/MP3 player. I wanted to use this in my laptop that only has a CDRom drive (DVD -> SVCD on CDRW media). So I set out to repeat the process as before...

    AND NOW FOR MY PROBLEM:
DVD2SVCD crashed during the CCE encoding stage. I was getting an error message that said something like "CRC error - check video source tape etc." I found a note on : www.doom9.org re: DVD2SVCD and CCE 2.5 CRC errors that could be fixed with a patch. The patch basically removes CRC check from CCE. The patch installed fine and the CRC errors went away during the CCE step of DVD2SVCD.
The output of the DVD2SVCD program resulted in a .BIN and .CUE file that I burned with Nero. When I put the SVCD in my laptop and played it using STHSDVD I was horrified by the audio / video sync problem that I witnessed. The audio was faster than the video by about 2-3 seconds and it was consistently out throughout the entire video. That is when I went to the end of the hour legnth concert (actaully 1 hour and 13 minutes) the audio was still 2-3 seconds ahead of the video. The DVD source .VOB files play flawlessly with POWERDVD. The framerate is 25fps (PAL source - as the DVD is region 4). The audio is AC3 extracted and BEsweet encoded to .mp3 at 44Khz with 128 bitrate. Basically, all the defaults in DVD2SVCD were set when I did the RIP / EXTRACTION / ENCODING / MUXING / CONVERSION.

    NOW

Here's where my newbieness (is that a word) is going to start showing.
I went back to the .MPG file that was encoded by bbMPEG during the DVD2SVCD audio video mux process. (actually I did this step after burning a couple of more CDRW's - and experiencing exactly the same sync problem - I suspected maybe a NERO problem).
So, I played the bbMPEG.MPG file in POWERDVD and in Win Media player and it looks great. So, I'm thinking its the VCDxbuild / VCDimager program. I go get VCDGEAR and build the .bin / .Cue file and then convert to .DAT to see what STHSDVD will do with the .MPG -> .DAT files created by VCDGear. NOPE!!! STILL get the AUDIO sync problem.

NOW 4 days later I'm really getting desparate.
I RIP'd a special feature (interview) off the same music concert video DVD and this video segment (~ 18 mins worth) converted fine. Both the .MPG and the .DAT play fine with STHSDVD.

BUT I GO BACK TO THE 1h13m video segment and re-convert using DVD2SVCD 1.06 build 1, 3 and 4 (1.07 is not out yet). AND STILL I HAVE THE PROBLEM.

THE .MPG muxed file plays fine with POWERDVD and Win Media player however when I play with STHSDVD
    OR
create .MPG -> dat and burn to CDRW then play in a stand alone SVCD player the audio is not sync'd properly (as stated above audio is a couple of secs to fast throughout the video).

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?????????? PLEASE HELP...

    Cheers,
    kd

sorry, I dont know. This never happened to me. I do not use dvd2svcd but do the steps seperately, but this can not be the problem since the MPEG muxed by bbMPEG plays fine.
I rather believe, it is Nero. It is not recommended to burn a bin/cue created by VCDImager with Nero, especially if you chapters or / and menus. Try to burn with CDRWIN, fireburner or cdrdao instead.
One question: The same MPEG plays fine in PowerDVD or WinMediaPlayer, but is out of sync in the HeroDVD player?

    I played the file: bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg

    in
    PowerDVD plays correct.
    Windows Media Player plays correct.
    Herosoft DVD 2.1 plays INCORRECT.

audio is 2 seconds to fast for video.

I agree that Nero could be a problem. I have CDRwin and will try it. However, I believe I have found the problem before I even burn the .DAT to CDRW. I say this because the sync (audio/video) is off (as described above) exactly the same as when I play the SVCD or off the hard-drive .DAT or .MPG.

    What do I do?

Any and all help are appreciated VERY much.
    Cheers,
    kd
