Does it play WMV media files? If not, major problem as those are built in. MPEG-2 and others, you may need to add the codecs. You can check most files with Gspot to see what codecs are needed and if you have them. Probably need MediaInfo for checking WMV files.

Or just try VLC Media Player. It plays most anything and doesn't need any added codecs.

K-lite also has a bad habit of damaging existing codecs and causing many more problems than it solves. And it rarely uninstalls cleanly. I consider it bad advice to recommend K-lite or most any codec pack to anyone. Good luck.

The K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool, on the other hand, is useful for spotting broken filters, etc. If you're ever in a bad way with DirectShow one of the things you can do is use Zoomplayer to unregister ALL filters and then use the built-in option to register only the default system filters; from there, you can re-install CoreAVC, ffdshow, Haali, etc.

  9. I can't even get it to install. MS is really getting flaky with their new updates. I get permission denied messages that require registry hacks.
