Ok I have recently recorded a 1080i hdtv program off the air. My fusion hdtv gold t 3 capture card records in .tp format.

What I would like to do is take the least number of steps to go from the 7gb file to a dvd dl disc that I can play in my ps3. I did read up on tsmuxer and seems like the ideal program. Unfortunately it does not accept .tp files.

What would be a good option to get the file on a dvd dl? (Fyi I have several memorex dl +r blanks that I've never used but this seems to be a good opportunity). The ps3 hasn't been upgraded to play .ts and .tp files yet has it?? That would be amazing if they did that.

I do know I could convert to 720p divx and should be able to play on the ps3. However I don't know if I want to go that route. My fastest pc is a dual core amd 2.7 ghz pc. Would that do the conversion in less than a day? I don't really have a time limit on this I'm just curious. If it would still take days on a dual core I may just forgo this procedure.

    Suggestions are welcome.

Also is it possible to simply rename the extension to .ts? Would that corrupt the file?

Would other programs like mkv2vob or ripbot264 be the better way to go? I'm looking for the shortest route to get a 7.36gb file onto a dvd +r dl disc that the ps3 could read.

FYI I do have a xbox 360 but do they support high def divx or just standard divx? Also I know they support wmvhd don't they? But would that take just as long to convert as divx would?

One last question - would it be possible to take bluray software and author the tp file as a bluray and burn to dvd dl +R? I know there is stuff like that but most of those articles refer to high def mkv or divx. There isn't that much on hdtv recordings.

    Thanks.

Just renaming it to ts wont corrupt the file. Have you tried that and import in tsmuxer?

What is the video and audio codec in your tp streams?

And the xbox 360 supports divxhd and wmvhd.

I'll try that out and let you know.

I don't know the codecs yet. It's an ordinary off the air .tp file if that helps.

Good to know the 360 can do hd compressed formats. I knew and tested the standard stuff.

EDIT - It worked! Renaming it in the dos prompt to .ts allowed ts muxer to recognize it.

    THanks Baldrick.

Is the best approach to mux to m2ts and burn to dual layer?

EDIT 2 - I am currently muxing to m2ts. I am actually using my single core celeron pc and it seems to be moving pretty well - at 6% right now and moving well. It should fly on my vista dual core.

So all I should need to do is burn the m2ts as data on the dual layer disc right? My goal is for it to play on the ps3. Thanks again.

EDIT 3 - I am burning the m2ts file right now. It will be about 40 minutes on my pioneer dl burner. Unfortunatley it Id'd the disks as ritek. Fortunately I only have about ten or twelve of them. if this works out I may buy more dual layer blanks but won't be memorex.

Is verbatim still considered the best dual layer blanks avaiable at physical stores? I know I can buy anything online but I still like to pick up stuff in stores (hate paying shipping or even if its free shipping dislike the waiting ).

Also I am burning the 1kb .META file that was created by tsmuxer. is this required? It won't take up much space of course but does it do anything on a ps3 or is it just a log file for tsmuxer?

EDIT 4 - It worked! It looks awesome. It shows up in full 1.85 widescreen with 5.1 audio. However initially there seemed to be some audio synch issues. But there seemed to be a correction later and the rest looked ok upon fast forwarding.

I'm testing this on another capture. Hopefully this works again. Thanks.

I've only used Verbatim DL + discs and I haven't had a coaster yet. You probably don't need the meta file for anything. I've got an encode running right now, so I can't check what's in one.

    Thanks redwudz.

I'm actually thinking about possibly getting that wd media player. It can do ntfs and supports m2ts files. With an HDMI port that would be sweet.

I could capture in high def and simply copy to a harddrive and plug and play.

I currently have my vista pc in a seperate room from my hdtv. I suppose if I moved it back I wouldn't need to buy anything additional. That is another option as well.

EDIT - Well I decided to move my pc back to my hdtv. this will eliminate the need for a seperate player. I'll be able to stream directly from the pc. I could do something like split the files so I can burn to dl discs. OR I could still convert to divx hd depending on how quickly that would work on my dual core.
