Writing a quick guide on getting Blue ray to WMV-HD with 5.1 or Stereo. Unsure about the Dolby Digital audio settings in TSMuxer. Can someone please explain the difference between True-HD, Dolby Digital and AC3 . Here is the guide written so far.

The first step is to download and install latest versions of Haali Media Splitter, AC3 Filter, Smartlabs TSMuxer, SupRip, Microsoft Expression Encoder 2 Trial, TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 Full Consumer version and Windows Media Encoder Series 9. All the software required can be found at the following web addresses:

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Haali_Matroska_Splitter.htm.
    http://ac3filter.net/.

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/SupRip.htm.
    http://expression.microsoft.com.
    http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx.

A quick explanation of why the software is needed. Haali Media Splitter allows the VC-1 video part of the M2TS file to read, whilst the AC3 Filter reads the Dolby DTS/Stereo audio. Smartlabs TSMuxer allows you to pick and choose which audio, video and subtitle streams you require. Microsoft Expression Encoder 2 gives a quality WMV video file. TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 gives a quality WMA audio file and subtitle handling if needed. SupRip lets you extract subtitles from Blueray titles. Note that you will need to configure AC3 Filter for Dolby DTS 5.1 if needed otherwise it will be Stereo. Microsoft Expression Encoder 2 after 30 days has limited options and becomes the Express version.

    1. Use TSMuxer to get correct Audio, Video and Subtitle streams into a M2TS file. The main feature is the largest M2TS file in size in the BDMW/STREAM folder. In the Tracks Window is a Codec column. VC-1 indicates the video portion of the stream, DTS or DTS-HD is Dolby Digital, and AC3 is none Dolby Digital, which are the audio portion of the stream. PGS streams contain Subtitles. Once the streams have been selected, choose M2TS muxing in the Output window.

    2. Load the M2TS file into Microsoft Expression Encoder and select HD 720p Intranet Profile using all files option to list M2TS. Change Bitrate average to 9000 Kbps for the HD 720p Intranet Profile. Uncheck Audio Stream output file box to allow for video only and select Frame rate as 24fps.

    3. Load the M2TS file into TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 and select Windows Media Audio output only from the Format button. Select Windows Media Audio 10 Pro with a CBR of 384 Kbps and 48 KHz 5.1 Channel that is 24 Bit.

    4. Combine the audio and video streams into a single file using the Windows Media Stream Editor.

To include permanent subtitles within a WMV-HD file, you need to extract the subtitles from a M2TS file into the SRT format that can be imported into TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0. To do this follow, the steps below.

    1. Use TSMuxer to demux PGS streams to a SUP file and load into the SupRip to produce an ANSI SRT formatted file.

    2. Start TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 and select Start a new Project and load WMV-HD file. Select Filters and then Edit Filter List. Add the Subtitles filter and enable it.

    3. Select the Edit menu in the Subtitles filter window and import the ANSI SRT formatted file. Check for any errors and then encode the WMV-HD file.
