Okay, this is a unique question and any help is greatly appreciated.
I am an artist who is working on a video project. I need to rip DVDs to a format I can edit on my computer which retain the CSS, Macrovision or Arccos distortions.

I know that most people who find a DVD ripper which copies their videos without breaking the encyrption will forget about that software in the same amount of time it takes them to delete it. But PLEASE -- if you know of any out there which allow you to copy the video without cracking the security, I really need to know!

I thought that older versions of handbrake allowed this, but I can't find any legacy installer beyond 2 years old and those require an on-the-fly decrypter.

Again, just to repeat my plea: I need a DVD ripper which does not bypass encryption and permits copying the distortion which results. Imagine Sony's and Macrovision's ideal copying software, and that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks to all of you who can help

Yeah, but kentback wants to be able to edit the video(s), as well.

You can't edit the DVDs without stripping the protection, and to put it back... well, an end-user can't really do that.

i believe you can. i have a copy of wall-e I just made which demonstrates this perfectly. In the past, I have copied a wallace and gromit dvd (approximately 3 years ago) with the same results. I know it can be done to copy the dvd into an editable format and see the destruction that protection has on the image. it might no longer be "protected," but most people wouldn't consider it of any use anymore.
