    Hi guys,

I've burnt a Verbatim Dvd+R DL but it will not play on my standalone Dvd player, it works fine on my PC.

I am using ConvertXtoDVD to encode and burn the Dvd.

I think im correct in saying the media i'm using is considered to be pretty good so i'm not sure what the problem is.

Anyone give me anything to try out ie: change the settings in ConvertXtoDVD or use a different prog to burn etc

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Did you try to book type to DVD-ROM?
I would use ImgBurn for DVD-DL.

First, you did good with your media choice!!

Next..... you used ConvertXtoDvd to burn it ??

Well, one out of two is not bad

Use ImgBurn to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to DL+R from now on.

The other issue is does your standalone support the playback of DLR media ??

    Not all do.

    Thanks chaps for the replies.

Firstly i did'nt change the book type in ConvertXtoDvd as i dont know how to, any know how?

Noahtuck, i take it that was a bad choice burn wise! I shall try ImgBurn and change the booktype to ROM if i can figure out how to!

    Cheers.

I can't rule out that your player simply won't play DL media. It is known to happen. If that's the case, nothing you do will work. You might post what your make and model of DVD player is in case anybody knows about problems with it. I have a friend whose DVD player will only play the first layer of DL discs and nothing more.

If your DVD player is older (3+ years) book type might be the problem. This isn't really supposed to be an issue in new players as most of them shouldn't need this to be done.

    Quick update.

I followed Noahtuck's advice, burned with Imgburn and changed the booktype to DvD-Rom and it now works on the standalone Dvd player. I'm not sure which change has made it play but i'm very happy now!

    Cheers all.

Most likely it was the booktype setting, but you should definitely only burn DVDs with ImgBurn to eliminate bad burning software as a possible cause for problems.

I also suggest the PcgEdit + ImgBurn method, to set your own layer break.

Sounds like you may have started with an AVI/Xvid. If that is is the case going to DL is probably a waste. Same your DL discs for original pristine sources.
