I used to capture off tv with Divx's interlacing set to Progressive source
then de-interlace as BOB via VLC's player (or virtualdub if i want to better-encode and keep)

This used to produced a VERY smooth framerate, however ever since i formatted and reinstalled codecs, viewing vids in this manner and producing a jagged-frame rate (it's kind of playing frame 1,2,3,4,5 then repeating 3,4,5 and playing frame 6,7,8,9 etc etc)

and idea why this is so?
    thanks in adv

  2. Probably the wrong field order. I think VLC's Bob deinterlacer assumes bottom field first.

but the same video file on the laptop with VLC works fine too (as it used to on the pc prior the format)

in what order do you suggest to install the codecs? and which?

  4. Check to see if you have the same version of VLC on both computers. I have 0.9.6 right now and deinterlacing isn't working with DV AVI files (no video window even). It works with Divx AVI files and MPG files though.

By default VLC uses only internal file splitters and codecs. It can be configured to use system splitters and codecs instead. From Tools -> Preferences -> Input & Codecs see if Use System Codecs... is set the same on both computers.

    Try Reset Preferences?

It's possible for the graphics card to do the deinterlacing rather than the media player. I don't think VLC supports this but you might check the graphics driver's setup applet for deinterlacing settings.

You can also try a different player, at least as an experiment. MPCHC is pretty good.
