  1. What exactly is this? I have been to some sites about some players capable of playing mini DVD but what is it?

I read it can br burned to cd and can be authored by DVDit and a DVD quality??? If so, then one movie must be like 6 cds???

  2. miniDVD is having DVD Quality (resolution and AC3 Audio) on a regular CDR media, this is good for things like maybe a music clip, but way too annoying to put a whole movie, you'd need like 10 CD's for just one movie.

Ah...but sefy that depends.....DVD supports more than just full D1 resolutions. The thing about miniDVD is you get to keep all the features including DD surround, whatever..... See what I want to do is use the half D1 resolution and make miniDVD's that have 5.1 soundtracks.... kinda svcd quality cept better audio of course....the problem is the software.... not any good software for making studio like dvd features (menus, multiple audio, etc ) that i know of...

    1. No. Very very few DVD players support miniDVD.
    2. You can author it with most DVD authoring proggies.
    3. It depends on the way you author the miniDVD.

  8. wildcatfan, half DVD resolution would be exactly VCD by the way, which is why most DVD Authoring programs accept VCD to author to a DVD and not a SVCD (never thought of that one did you?).

See, DVD is 720x480 (divide by half) VCD is 352x240
Or for PAL is 720x576 (divide by half) VCD is 352x288

    (yeah I know 352+352=704!)

So basicly what you will be doing is a VCD with alot of bitrate, I even made a Template like that, but when I saw so many miniDVD Templates, I never tried to release it, my Template was VCD with exact half settings of DVD

And the rest regarding miniDVD I believe vitualis answered quiet nice, barely anything plays it! so it's a waste of time

Just being picky but if you divide (720 x 576) by a half you would get (1440 x 1152), you need to multiply by a half or divide by 2 to get (360 or 352 x 288).

Just joking with you, your posts in the past have helped me a lot and its much appreciated.

  10. Actually, it is even worse than that. VCD is one quarter the resolution of DVD, not one half. When both the horizontal and vertical are multiplied by one half, the end product is one quarter.

    1/2(Hor) x 1/2(Ver) = 1/4(Hor x Ver)

    Nitpicky, I'll admit.

  11. Ok, I admit that my math is extremly bad, that's why humans invented calculators
But if i'm not mistaken, half of 480 is 240, and half of 576 is 288, it's not a quarter of it, it's exactly half of it
As for 720/2=360 yeah, so I was off by 8dots, shoot me :P
Most movies are wide screen anyway, but I am curious as to how you got a quarter of the size ?

If you take a full D1 rectangle and lop off half the horizontal pixels, then lop of half of the vertical pixels, you end up with 1/4 of the rectangle you started with ... thats how, in a fun Sesame Street sorta way, you get VCD being one quarter the resolution of the DVD ...

Chao-ji Video Discs are Half D1, because it only lops off half of the vertical pixels but none of the horizontal ones.
