I bought one of these from Crutchfield,it was onsale for $70.00,the XDE image enhancements do work. Hooked up via HDMI of course. The effect is quite noticeable. If the disk has no noise in it the XDE does not introduce any.
The effect is good on movie disk but quite remarkable on TV episode disks. The effect is quite remarkable on retail disks. Burned transcoded disk will depend on much compression was used, the less the better. Overall I'm quite impressed with it's picture quality, getting very close to near HD-DVD quality. An excellent upconverting DVD player.
What I didn't like was the front panel display which shows only a track number,no time display. Also if your source is 4:3 it display as 16:9,severly distorting the aspect ratio and there's no way to correct it. Fortunately my Toshiba Regza has an option to force 4:3HD display correcting the players incorrect output.
