I have a 1080p HDTV on the way and i'm looking for the best solution for media streaming HD video from my computer to the TV. I'm led to believe the PS3 can stream m2ts files from my PC to the TV is this correct?
Is the XBox 360 also able to stream 1080p video to my TV in the same way?

My idea is to rip my bluray titles to my hard drives and then just stream the m2ts files through either of these consoles to my TV, is this a viable setup?

Can anyone in the know run me through the pro's and con's of both consoles.

Also there doesnt seem to be many game titles available for the PS3... whats with that?

    Thanks

Look, you posted on a weekend. Many forum members don't bother reading the forums on weekends. And this was a major holiday weekend in the USA, so many American members might not be reading either.

You might take a look here:

where some guy is posting that he is having problems streaming DVD rips to his PS3. I have neither so I can't comment on which is better. The streaming problem seems odd to me as MPEG-2 is not difficult to playback and doesn't require more CPU power than the PS3 can deliver, so I'm not sure what's up with that. I'm just pointing out that someone using it as a media streamer is having problems.

I'm not familiar with m2ts, though I am fairly certain the XBOX 360 cannot play it alone. See the XBOX 360 supported codecs.. You may be able to use streaming applications such as Tiversity to stream the files to your 360 and convert to compatible format on the fly, or look in the tools section to convert the files to one of the compatible formats.

I cannot speak for PS3. Don't have one.
