    Ok,

I'm pretty new to bluray transcoding. I have a few questions, and I'm sorry if they have been answered before. I tried to do the legwork and find the answers to my questions but I'm confused about a few things.

Goal : I want to transcode bluray movies to fit on 1 dual layer dvd. I have yet to decide if I want to just play the files off of my computer (using mkv container and using unrestricted hq profiles in MeGUI) or if I want to make them AVCHD PS3 compatible (m2ts container.)

Background : I like MeGUI. My goal is to keep using it to do the transcoding, not Nero Recode, not Ripbot. The only experience I have transcoding is DVD to iPod touch/iPhone compatible using DVD Decrypter IFO mode. I then run the dvd files through DGIndex to demux the audio and index the video to a .d2v project file. I then use MeGUI's avisynth script creator for the video and transcode the video/audio using MeGUI. I would like to use a similar process for Bluray if at all possible.

    Questions :

    1) What is the best method to demux the bluray m2ts files? eac3to seems to be the best method to get the audio and chapters. I could also pull out the audio and video streams using tsMuxer. What are the advantages to using eac3to to demux? What I can see is that with eac3to I can pull out the chapter files.
1a) Why does eac3to remove dialog normalization? If it wasn't supposed to be there, why would the studios put it there?
1b) DGIndex adds delay when needed...does tsMuxer not do this when using it to demux the audio? Why is there delay even needed? I mean, I know its for sync issues, buy if there's supposed to be a delay, why wouldn't the studios put the delay there instead of having to do it during transcode? From what I gathered, eac3to supports figuring out the correct delay on audio transcoding...does it support this during just a demux of the audio stream?

    2) So based on answers I'll decide to use tsMuxer or eac3to...depending on which is better. But then what do I do with the demuxed video? tsMuxer demuxes to the elementary stream...I was told to use DGAVCIndex to then index the video file like DGIndex does. But DGAVCIndex doesn't work with every h264/vc1 steam I throw at it. Would it be better to just use eac3to to demux the video to an mkv container and import that into MeGUI and letting it create the avs script calling a directshow source? What are the advantages to using a DVAVCIndex project file as opposed to just using a directshow source avs script? I tried using a directshow source and it seems to be slightly out-of-sync on the final mkv I made. Was this caused by using the directshow source in the avs script? I only tried one movie so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it was in sync. What I'm getting as is....since DGAVCIndex errors out at some elementary streams I throw at it, is it just as good to use the mkv with the video in it that eac3to spits out and import that into MeGUI's avisynth script creator? Will this cause any soft of audio sync errors?

Example of an avisynth script importing the mkv :
    DirectShowSource("C:\BDRip\TheUntouchables\Demuxed \TheUntouchables.mkv",fps=23.9759856527702,audio=f alse)
    #deinterlace
    #crop
    Spline36Resize(1280,720) # Spline36 (Neutral)
    Undot() # Minimal Noise

Is that correct? Should I be changing the FPS= value to 23.976?

This is a quote from a tutorial :

    "DirectShowSource("shining.GRF", fps=23.976, framecount=172108, audio=false). bicubicResize(1280, 720)

The 2 important things here are framecount (get this from your eac3to log) and fps (always 23.976 for film, may differ for TV again eac3to log at the top where it gives info on video streams)."

This tutorial's directshowsource puts in the FPS as 23.976 and also adds the framecount...that's why I ask if I should be editing the default avisynth script that MeGUI creates when using the script creator and importing the mkv. If I leave it at the default with the FPS at fps=23.9759856527702 and not put in the framecount value, am I going to have sync issues?

    3) Let's assume that I end up using eac3to to demux the audio to the elementary stream and the video to an mkv container. I then transcode the video using MeGUI using a directshow source avs script. I don't know if I want to use mux it to mkv to play off of my computer or to mux to m2ts and create AVCHD compliant disks for PS3. I'd rather create disks I can play in PS3. But from what I read PS3 can't rewind these AVCHD disks...is that correct? Can it have subtitles and chapters? If I can't rewind/fastforward the disks and cannot use chapters or subtitles I think I'll go with mkv and play it using my computer. I'd much rather play AVCHD disks using PS3 but not if I can't use the mentioned features. Anyone have any idea if the PS3 will eventually be able to play mkv files? MKV seems to be the way to go.

I'm pretty new to it myself but i'm using ripbot and it does AVCHD discs easily, minus the fancy menus!
