Me again!
When I try to "Create Disc" in Ulead Video Studio SE 9, I get a "Video Studio has encountered an unexpected eror and needs to close" message. This happens whether I'm attempting to burn directly to disc, create a VIDEO_TOS folder, or an ISO image. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Video Studio.
The project is over an hour long, no audio, and with non-motion menus and no background music on the menu.
It still seems to handle a 15 minute project just fine.
Exporting this one-hour project to AVI got the same message at 99%.
So far I've got Ulead Video Studio SE 9 (crashing), ArcSoft Showbiz 2 (somehow degrades AVI video; transitions in MPEG projects cause audio static), Windows Movie Maker for XP (doesn't author DVD's, as far as I know), and Roxio DVD Creator Basic 9 (don't care for the editing interface). I guess I'll have to try the Roxio, anyhow.
Could this be as simple as finding a errant .dll and deleting it and reinstalling? Seems I read that worked.
Thanks for your help.

Just last week, I was trying Aimersoft DVD Author, it crashed as soon as it would start to display the GUI. Right there I knew it was a video card driver problem. I switched to a standard VGA driver and it worked; still waiting for a driver update. Now that I know that, I guess I should try Video Studio again. -
Y'know...I wonder if my computer just can't handle converting AVI files like that to MPEG, and keeping up with the edits, transitions, titles and menu options as well? My computer says "1 GB RAM/ (4 GB Max)." I don't know what that means, but that should be enough, right? Maybe not. Should I buy a memory card?
A friend of mine says he uses Sony Vegas on a five year old computer with ease, so...I'm looking at the trial version now, but damn this looks complicated! -
Adding more ram won't make things more stable, but it will speed up things. Windows fakes having more ram by swaping between the ram and the hard drive and the hard drive is a lot slower than ram. Your PC has 1 GB of ram and could have a max of 4.
Vegas is very nice and powerful and maybe a little more than you need compared with what you started with. The vegas movie studio line is closer to ulead video studio, you can get it from places like best buy for less than $100 watch for sales. Similar to it is adobe premiere elements. -
like I said, it's an old free program that has issues...parts are even disabled...you can't expect much when things are incomplete
I suppose you could try to export your video any way you can, use another encoder to make a compliant mpeg, and try importing it and checking the "do not re-encode" button when burning
the VS burning engine isn't very good compared to others
most editors have a free trial...maybe goof with them
I found out early to use a separate hard drive with only the OS, editor, and minimum drivers on it so nothing interferred...great way to see how buggy the sw really is
they all look complicated at first...especially the pro versions

I FIXED IT! GLORY BE!
I looked at the "has experienced an unexpected error and must close" pop-up, and on closer inspection it said:
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer:9.0.0.0 ModName: uvmpeg2.dll ModVer: 8.0.0.0 Offset: 00014744
The "uvmpeg2.dll" in particular caught my eye. I gambled on the idea of finding that dll and deleting it, though trying such things has fried my system before. So I searched and found two instances of that dll running. I moved them both to the Recycle bin, but didn't delete them, in case I needed to restore them later.
Then I went to the Control Panel and hit the Uninstall button, but rather than uninstalling I clicked the Repair option. Ulead did a little grinding, then asked me to put the original disc in. I did, and the next time I tried it...it worked! Previously within 48 seconds of hitting Create Disc it would give the "unexpected error" pop-up, but this time it worked. I also just did another disc with both the Burn DVD and Create ISO options checked, and it did both without a problem. I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling before, but that didn't change a thing, only this method did.
This version of Video Studio SE 9 seems to be fully functional, but the frames it offers you to create menus with is limited. Maybe I can find some more on the Internet? I might even spring for a full version, now that I know what the hang-up was.
I really hope this thread makes it high in the Google search listings, because from my hours of searching for an answer I saw where many people had this identical problem, and I didn't see anything about anyone finding a solution. If you are one of those people, I hope I helped you! I know I helped me! -
ROTFLMFAO
Glad you got it fixed...
There's a whole ulead forum I forget to tell you about...maybe post your solution there, too
PS - I picked up VS11+ on ebay for $30...
