    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to figure out how to encode video using GraphEdit and FFDShow.

I'm able to create a graph and render it as an AVI, but I can't seem to figure out how to encode it as anything else.

As far as I can gather there needs to be a filter inserted before the MUX which then encodes the video stream using whatever codec you'd like, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this.

    1. Is there another FFDShow filter that I need to add here?
    2. Is there a setting somewhere on the existing "FFDShow Raw Video Filter" that defines what codec to use?

See the image \ graph attached.

    Thanks
    Warrick

  2. Using AVI Mux will always get you an AVI file. You need to use a different muxer to get a different type of output file.

Also, you want to use "ffdshow video encoder" in the "Video Compressors" section of the "Insert Filters" dialog, not the "ffdshow raw video filter".

  3. I think the filter you want is "ffdshow video encoder". Double click that to select the different codec settings

Can I ask why you are doing it this way? There are easier methods, and ffdshow used as an encoder doesn't have great quality settings

AHHH - THANK YOU! - I didn't realize that there was another node for Video Compressors.

To answer the question of why I'm doing it this way. I'd like to benchmark the performance of some of filters\codecs on different servers - so I'm really just doing this as a learning exercise.

I was reading this article: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/html/en/faq.htm and wanted to try using the filters that they reference to do some bechmarks of my own. But before I do that I want to make sure I understand the basics of how to construct a graph etc. Finding documentation on this is apparently not a happening idea.

I was able to add "ffdshow video encoder" which seems to generate a file, but does not seem to be playable. I'm guessing it needs to be hooked up to a MUX od some kind. Is there a FFDShow MUX hiding somewhere that I'm missing also?

    Thanks

  5. We have no way of knowing what filters you have installed on your computer. If you want an MPG file look for a MPEG Multiplexer in the DirectShow Filters section.
