  1. First try at burning a VCD. Used a downloaded AVI, converted to mpeg (TMPGen,using instructions from this site), burned on Yamaha CDRW with EZCD V5 Platinum (instr per this site). VCD converted/burned ok, no errors, but my DVD player just spins in "Reading" mode when I try to play. (I noticed framerate listed did not match those in TMPG menu so I picked PAL format). Philips DVD player is spec'd to play VCDs. Any ideas on what could be wrong or what to try next? Should I try other options or different burn software?? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

  2. Did you check if your DVD player will read the type of discs that you used?

  4. 1) DOWNLOAD avi2vcd use this to convert your avi to MPEG1 this program converts @ the right frame rate and the correct resolution (352x240)

    2) go into your DVD menu make sure PBC is turned on or off
some DVD player won't play a home made VCD unless this is set correct..E-mail me if this works ok..

  5. OK. thanks for all tips. Will try them. To answer reply questions:
    1. Yes, the DVD player manual says it plays VCDs. It's a recent Philips, not sure model #
    2. Burned at 8X.
    3. will check DVD menu for PBC. what is that exactly ?? And should it be on or off?

Couple more questions. I see EZCD is not to popular in the video CD world. Should I expect that Nero might give me a better result ?
Also should I select NTSC or PAL when encoding ?
    Thanks again.

  6. OK, sorry GAMBIT. I didn't read your post carefully enough. You refer to the disc media brand I think and no, I didn't check it but I will now. I used TDK. I just started in this site and there is so much here it will take some time to know where to look. thanks!!

  7. For your Philips DVD player u look if it execpts CD-R or CD-RW, if it says just VCD's them its talking about commerical VCD's (legail). But ya, look for CD-R or CD-RW in your manual. Also give nero a try!! Its the best, burn a 4x or less, also NTSC if in the USA or PAL if overseas.
