Welcome to the forums, but your post is unclear. Are you looking for a BD player that can play MKV files? If so, there aren't any unless the PS3 does it.
If you want to find players that play raw VOB files instead of authored DVDs, I think you are out of luck here too. Standalone BD players are all more strict about what they will play than the PS3.

when you have 720p and 1080p MKV files
you can use a program called mkv to VOB that converts them to singular high def vob files that the ps3 can play
that's what im looking to play on a BD player

Since those don't appear to be 'real' VOBs, try renaming the extension on one to .mpg and some players may be able to read it. A VOB in a regular DVD VIDEO_TS folder is sized at 1GB maximum and the folder would also have to contain the rest of the DVD structure. I don't think a set top DVD or BD player will work with non-standard VOBs that aren't in a VIDEO_TS folder. I don't know if they will play HD MPEGs either. You could try a BD player in a store, but odds are it will spit it out.

  6. You can use tsmuxer, to author blu-ray discs. It will make the proper directory structure & .m2ts, without menus.

I would use it on the original h264 video, assuming that's what the .mkv was (since the "VOB" isn't really MPEG2), but it even works on HD MPEG2 streams.

If your original video is not compliant (e.g. b-pyramids, lots of reference frames >level4.1..), nothing you do will make it work short of re-encoding it to complian specs. Although sometimes you can change a few parameters with h264info to try to make it work

Look for a standalone player that suports AVCHD, Panasonic and Sony are the companies to look for. You can mux your file into a Blu-ray structure with tsmuxer and burn to DVD. But like the other poster wrote, the file has to be compliant (720 or 1080p, level 4.1 ....)

    okay
so im trying to make an avchd disc
and i follow all these steps
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_mkv_to_avchd_for_ps3_and_blu-ray.cfm
    yes its mkv and ac3

and i pop it in my ps3 and i get a black screen

and i converted a 1080p file with dts and the dts audio worked-which is cool i guess but no picture showed up on that one

but yes i did try ac3 (level 3.1)\h.264 in mkv and i outputted to blu disc
and it opens in ps3 and it just plays a black screen for the correct time period

    whats going on?

Well, since you provide no details on your source except to call it 1080p, I'm guessing the problems could include any of the following:

You botched the steps in the guide.
The resolution of your file is not really 1920x1080 and this method is expecting to see 1920x1080.
The frame rate of your file is wrong for this type of disc.
The original MKV has something in the video encoding that the PS3 doesn't like.

okay yeah for the last hour i found out that you need a proper 720p\1080p resolution file to play in AVCHD
    the file wasn't 1920 x1080 it was 1920 by 880

what is the best way to do this? (add the bars i do not want to stretch or crop)
ripBOT works but very slow, is there any alternatives?
and i made a test file and it came out smaller than the source (loos of quality?) how do i maintain the quality

also for my already converted VOB files (h.264) converted from mkv to vob
whats the best way to convert back to mkv so i make an AVCHD out of the and fix the resolutions
so far handbrake somewhat works but im sure thats not the best prog to use for this purpose

MKV-AVCHD is seeming to be a complicated process, thank heavens for the ps3s ability to play VOBs
(Im just learning all this so that I have the dual compatibility with a standalone BD player that I am yet to purchase, still waiting for recommendations

    BTW
i was just saying that the dts audio actually worked on the ps3 from mkv to tsmuxer to avchd for some reason even though the guide said otherwise

thanks again guys for all the help

  15. You may not ned a Blu-ray player.. merely something that will play your files.. why not look at a media player.. a very capable one seems to be the popcorn hour, which daily grows more expensive (in pounds) it plays all manner of quaire files. It will also take a load off your pc as it can continue downloads. I dont own or have access to one, tho ....
