    Hello friends,

I have a problem, when I play a dvd movie with 5.1 channel sound. I get very low sound in rear speakers as compared to front and center speakers.
It happens in both Powerdvd 8 and windvd. I have onboard realtec 97 sound
and i am using creative inspire 5200 speakers.

Please help me to solve the problem..

Your kind help will be greatly appriciated.

  2. From Control Panel start the Sounds and Audio Devices applet. On the Volume tab press the Advanced button in the Speaker Settings section. Make sure the system is set up for a 5.1 speaker system. Also press the Advanced button in the Device Volume section to start up the system mixer. Make sure the Back and Front sliders aren't maladjusted.

I don't use PowerDVD or WinDVD but make sure those are set to use a 5:1 speaker system, not downmix to stereo.

Use Realtek HD Audio Manager to verify the speaker connections.

Sometimes I've noticed that rear output on computer surround sound systems isn't very strong. Even if they are powered systems it just doesn't crank them up.

I suppose one alternative is to get a seperate pair of powered speakers that can you can really crank up and use those as rear speakrs.

  5. You are aware that most movies don't have a lot of sound on the rear channels most of the time, right?

I have one of my rear surround speakers on an end table right next to my chair. The volume is always low as that's the way they are supposed to work. They are only to 'fill in' the sound, not to be an obvious sound source. The front center should be the loudest and the rear surrounds the quietest.

Most computer sound cards have a testing setup where you can check correct surround speaker operation. Or here are some files that should demonstrate surround sound: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/trailers.html

I don't notice the rear surrounds doing much except with a few DVDs that make real use of them. Try a DVD with THX sound.
