Sometimes I need to right click an audio track in Vegas to edit it, but I'm not sure what program to get... any idears?

The logical (but expensive) choice is Sound Forge, which comes from the same home as Vegas (and same original writers). It is powerful, shares filters, and if you are familiar with Vegas you will pick it up quickly.

That said, you can just as easily tell Vegas to use Audacity, which will cost you nothing. It really depends on what type of editing you are doing.

I have both Sound Forge and Vegas, and I use both, but I rarely, if ever, need to call Sound Forge when working in Vegas. Vegas' audio tools are so powerful I often use it instead of Sound Forge because for multi-track work it is an easier environment to work in.

A stripped down consumer version of SoundForge 9 is sold as Sound Forge Audio Studio http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/audiostudio

It merges with Vegas menus in the same way as full Sound Forge.

Main limitation is 16 bit 48Kb/s vs 24bit 96Kb/s which is ok for video.

SoundForge integrates with Vegas better than anything else, but it won't do multi-track stuff - in fact, I've used Vegas to do multitrack studio recording of bands before. If it's just pulling out a single audio file, Audacity is a nice free choice.

Note that you need the latest versions of SoundForge or Audio Studio for Vista compatibility. Otherwise it won't work with the Vista Mixer.
