Windows full install and updates are less than 10Gig triple the amount 30Gig is enough for OS. If you are installing programs like Office 500 to 700 MB Production Suites 1 to 2 Gigs. So the cheapest drive in these days are 320Gig sell around $50 so for your OS anything is good enough(I mean size). If you want performance buy a Raptor specially for capturing, I hate dropped frames!. The hard drive and partitions are personal preference there are no right or wrong. But there are things to consider that make a little difference. Viruses primarily hit your OS partition so if windows is in its own partition it would be safer, other thing is when your are running hard drive based program that have to access HD continuously it would be faster to read from one and write to the other. Lastly if you have cheap or low spec HD they behave faster in a raid array. My final suggestion is to check places like Frys specially on Thanksgiving's black Friday sale but you have to get there 5AM if you want to find parking 4AM.
