Yeah, rarely necessary, but it's quick and does no harm. Fab does a better job now than it used to.

Running FixVTS is much the same as doing a "mock strip" in IfoEdit to bring the pointers into full compliance. VobBlanker will do it as well.

You guys don't pay close attention to what is said.
I said I ripped in MAIN MOVIE mode, not in full disc mode.
In main movie mode it definitely has that flaw of dropping some short but legitimate cells.

Lucky for you that you always use the full disc mode.
But frankly I don't trust a program that has ANY flaws, even only in one specific mode.

When will you design and develop your very own flawless DVD Ripper?

All you need to do is re-rip your original, store bought, paid for, Wall-E DVD
in full disc mode than take it from there.....simple right?
Or weren't you paying close attention to what we said?

  4. I noticed. Just another reason to do full disc and leave further processing to something else.

Went through it one last time to verify earlier results. DVDShrink has no trouble reauthoring main movie from the Fab rip. Oddly, FixVTS is unable to backup the IFOs, throwing an error on VTS_16_1, although it will complete processing. (I usually process IFOs in place without backup). DVDShrink is okay with the "fixed" rip.

It's a wonder the original disc plays at all, considerable effort must have gone into the protection scheme. In vain. :P

If you like the movie, though, it's worth the trouble backing it up just to get rid of the damned adverts Disney puts on their DVDs.

I know the full disc mode works. I was pointing out a flaw, a serious flaw, in a mode of the
program so others will be aware.

You just keep saying use the full disc mode but don't give a reason.
Why shouldn't the main movie mode be used? Not everyone wants to do a full disc.
    There must be a reason.
You were ignorant of the reason.
I gave you the reason. Now you are educated.

I'd say you're the one with the attitude picrade, you started the nasty comments by saying people weren't listening closely to your comments. Last time I checked you didn't start this post, the OP was having trouble with WALL-E and asked for a solution, heck54 and others gave it to him. The OP didn't say anything about a "main movie only" rip solution.

Most people use "full disc' mode because it seems to work best, less problems. Certain programs are best at specific functions, they're not all the best at everything they do. Same reason most people would use ImgBurn for burning the DVD rather than using DVD Fab Platinum or DVD Shrink for re-authoring for instance.

As for my two cents once more, I actually have been using AnyDVD a lot more as of late, and it seems that it is just as easy to use, if not easier, that DVD-D********, and it has some great high end results.

I then open DVD Shrink to make sure to take out all the extra languages and sub-menus that I do not want or need, making sure to do a Deep Scan Analysis. After that, I burn the movie with ImgBurn, which seems to be the best program out there for burning ANYTHING my heart desires.

Now I am no expert at this, I don't really believe there is such a being, but should it come down to what WORKS for ME, I believe that I can safely say I am the foremost authority on that...

What works for one person does not always work for others, as I had learned when I had tried so many other programs and tutorials that people had posted on this site...hell, I even got down right pissed off that the way that worked for other people did not work for me, and I was probably one of those who stupidly retaliated against others for it as well, but then I stopped and put myself in check, and I thought to myself "Damnit, I am going to make this work if it kills me or my computer!"

I sat down, and I opened ruffly 43 programs that I have installed to rip, copy, edit, and burn DVDs with. I made it a battle, a war, and I declared myself the victor long before the battle had even begun...

After six hours of messing around, I finally found that the best ways that I had found to copy and backup all my movies was to do it one of two ways:

The first way was to use DVD-D******** to copy the movie to an ISO and MDS file. Then, I would open the image with DVD Shrink to make it fit onto a DVD5 by taking out all the stupid other languages and such. Then, I opened ImgBurn, went to Build Mode, browsed for the VIDEO_TS folder, and then ran through the rest of the tutorial that was on the ImgBurn website on how to burn the movie. IT WAS SO SIMPLE! I just made it more complex than it had to be...seems that is what a lot of people do...make things more complex than they have to be, that is...

The second method that seems to always works now for me is to use AnyDVD, always keeping the program up-to-date, and ripping the movie to the hard drive of my computer. I then repeat the steps outlined above using DVD Shrink and ImgBurn, but the outcome is always the same: I have a working and viable copy of my movie, so that I can put the originals away and not have to worry about neighbors and friends borrowing my movies anymore and the the movie getting lost or damaged because I will only have copies for them to watch, rather than originals...

The morale of this, once more, is what works for one person may or may not work for another person...when posting a reply or snide comment, just remember that everyone is different, with different experiences, knowledge, hardware and software...therefore, they might not be able to achieve the same results as some one else in the same manner as other people...

I have never had to use FixVTS, nor have any idea how to use that program, but I have seem many posts in this thread that site that program's use.

Once again, different people use different software for different things, because they have different needs and different hardware/software that requires a work around for optimal results...

What it all boils down to: Just play nice, OK? Please? Thanks...

Wow.. I can't believe how sneaky this DVD is.. I hope we don't experience any more like this... Well when you play the movie.. the main movie is on track 30...chapters 1-xx.. So I tried using Dvd-Decryper.. but found 96 copies.. then I tried using CloneDVD.. main-movie.. defaults to track 22.. 1:43:38 running time.. in which is all wrong.. should be around 1:38:10... so what do to.. Well this is how I did it..

Run CloneDVD.. customize mode.. delete all tracks 1-96 except for track 30....get rid of the extra music/voice tracks except for 6 channel (1st one), and get rid of all subtitles (these are optional as with other voice/music tracks)... Rip the DVD.. it will take about 30-40 mins... speeds up... slows down....etc.

What you have in your folder is tracks 1-19... well we know which the main movie is on...Track 7 (do delete everything else).. except VTS_07_1.VOB - VTS_07_5.VOB.........rename the 07 on each vob to from 07 to 01 ...

Run IFOedit .... click Create IFOs... Left Box (VTS_01_0.IFO PGC Options) -Create 1 PGC Only- ... Right box (VTS_01_0,IFO Chapter Options) -Create Chapter For Each Cell- ... Select your first 01 vob and continue....

Wait till IFOs are created... then exit out of IFOedit.. go back into IFOedit.. CLICK on GET VTS SECTORS... click the OK button a few times till its done.. then exit out of IFOedit...

Goto PowerDVD and select OPEN MOVIE ON HARD DISK.. select your location and play... everything should be in order and running time is exactly 1:38:09 ... then burn with nero as dvd-movie...

If you have any problems (don't know if you would), just leave a message on here if it worked or not... remember this is to BACKUP your movie that you bought or got as a gift.. not to pirate...

Very clever indeed. :P Well, that proves anything can be ripped, even using old tools, or tools not yet updated to deal with specific movies, i.e. AnyDVD and DVDFabHDDecrypter. When Casino Royale came out, it was the same, lots of posts about it here. Of course, updates to the above rippers soon came out. Out of curiosity, I found 2 workarounds for ripping that disc, one using DVDDecrypter, another with DVDShrink 2.3.

I suppose those new protection schemes serve some purpose. [shrugs] But it seems a waste of time to me.

Thanks for all the info on how to backup this DVD.

I sat down to watch Wall-E (3 disk edition) the other night and was greeted by a fair amount of skipping from my DVD player. I took the disk out and tried it in my PS2 with the same result. There was a small scratch on the edge of the disk so I thought that might be causing my issues. I returned the DVD to where I bought it and exchanged it for another. The new copy had not scratches, so I figured it would work. Nope, the same skipping happened with the new disk. I googled "Wall-E playback issues" and came across some threads discussing the scrambled chapters, etc. that this disk has presumably to prevent copying. My DVD player and PS2 are both 5+ years old, so I guess they can't handle the trickery on this new DVD.

Wall-E plays fine on my computer, but I would rather watch it on my TV. I'm going to use the software suggestions here to make a DVD copy that I can view without all the issues the main disk has. I'm quite disappointed at the behaviour of this movie. Do they expect me to buy a new DVD player every time some new "copy protection" is used? :P

Oh, well. The experience will give me a lesson in DVD ripping!

Yep, it will, and since I had began posting in this forum, I had little to no idea about copying my DVDs properly...now I am looked at by friends and family alike as if I am some kind of guru...lmao...I tell them I am not, I just have the right tools for the right job...lol...

Once more, in order, those tools are: AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn.

Using a trial version of AnyDVD and DVD Shrink I managed to back up the full disk to my hard drive. It went pretty smooth considering it's the first DVD I've ever ripped. Thanks to all the guides on this site and those mentioned in the DVD Shrink help!

I bought a pack of Sony DVD+R disks to make a DVD of the movie, but then I remembered that my MViX multimedia hard drive will play VOB files. I just copied the output from DVD shrink to the portable hard drive and I have a playable move, menus and all that I can hook directly to the TV. I previewed some of it and it looks like a good transfer. I'm going to watch it tonight to make sure the whole thing is OK.

I still want to try and burn a DVD just to see how well it works. I'll use the reauthor function in DVD Shrink to chuck out the FBI warnings and other filler.

AnyDVD worked like a charm here. I'm considering plunking down the $ to buy it. I'm always cautious though about giving out my credit card number. I'm assuming a number of you have bought this program. What do you think of them? Are they reputable? I'm probably being paranoid, but I'd figure I'd ask.

SlySoft is VERY Reputable! And, they even extended their update policy so that if you buy the program before like the end of this month, you will still get free updates to the program for life!

$55 USD for a program that you never have to buy an update for again in your life is a SMOKING bargain...do it up, and you will never be upset that you did not do it when you had the chance...lol....

As for burning the movie, go to www.imgburn.com and download ImgBurn, which is THE BEST piece of burning software out there, and, best of all, IT'S FREE!

They even have a tutorial on there to show you how to burn a movie, step by step...

Check them out, like I had previously said...AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn: THE BEST knock out combo ever invented...

AnyDVD is a GREAT program, and $55 is reasonable, but you can get the same thing for free with DVDFAB HD Decrypter.

I would love to get AnyDVD HD for ripping DVD and Blu-ray but they want $86 U.S....and that's with a 20% discount...too much IMO. Give me AnyDVD HD for $55 and THAT would be a smoking bargain.

A better idea would be to buy the movie. You should quit shouting. It's is highly annoying.
