    Hi,

I have recently bought one of these players from Ebuyer thinking it would work just as my Philips DVP5960 does.

Now I have purchased an external HDD and have attached it to the USB port but it will not read it. I made sure that

the drive was formatted with the FAT file system but i copied my media to it. It plays from a small usb Pen drive.

Has anyone got one of these players? are you aware of any external hdd size limit?

    Thanks.

What I have done is to format the external drive to FAT32 with SwissKnife: http://www.compuapps.com/Download/swissknife/swissknife.htm

MS operating systems limit FAT32 filesize to 4GB and HDD partition size to 32GB. Swissknife gets around that. I formatted a 320GB HDD to FAT32 and it works fine to a Philips 5990 player via USB. The program is easy to use and very fast.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Alright Redwudz,

Yeah I did the same for my Philips DVP5960, Swissknife worked a treat. It's the LG DVX392H that i am having problems with. I formatted the HDD (fat32) with Swissknife, but the LG DVX392H wont read the data from it.

It can read data from my 512mb usb pen drive though.

    Thanks for your response.

We've had reports on various players that support USB devices that some devices work and some don't with no real explanation as to why some fail. You should look in the manual or contact LG to ask them if there is some kind of limit to the size of supported USB devices. Maybe LG's player is strict about the limits that redwudz mentioned.

  5. I had same problem with my DVX392 but formatting to FAT32 solved it.
(link above doesn't work, just Google "SwissKnife free")

Hard drive is some 500GB WD, player is LG DVX392 (without HDMI).
