    For a 4:3 video, what are the best settings to use in your experience? Everything I try, youtube turns to absolute crap. I really wish they weren't so popular as there's so many better sites now.

    Have you tried add the &fmt=22 ?

    here's youtube's suggestion.

    We specifically recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.

    In the comments, someone said &fmt=18 and that worked, but the 22 didn't.. That high quality one is amazing on that page!!! I'll try 640x480 next time instead of 480x360; maybe that will make a difference..
