Hey, guys, really need help for my Benq EW162I DL DVD burner...I don't know if it really supports 8X Verbatim DL DVD+R...cuz I tried quite a few, and it didn't work (Before that, I was using 2.4X Verbatim DL DVD+R, never got any problem.) So I went to the store to exchange the rest 10 into Imation 8X DL DVD+R, the same problem, the burner shows WPOC failure error, while I clicked on continue, it did continue, but halted at 5%, 11% or 50% or even 80%! So it seems probably it got problems with those 8X disks? Anyone can help?

I found some post saying that BENQ doesn't handle 8X DVD DL+R, anyone who can confirm this for my model?

If that's true, then I will just go back and look for 2.4X Verbatim ones...

    Thanks a lot!

    Are you burning with ImgBurn?

I don't personally recommend burning any DL media at 8x speed. Even with my 8x discs I won't go above 4x. I know other people who won't go above 6x, but only a few brave people will risk 8x burning.

Verbatim makes the only reliable DL media so changing to Imation just means that you now have worse discs.

Burn at 4X speed (your Benq burner's highest DL speed) with ImgBurn ONLY, and use Verbatim discs ONLY.

To any moderator: This thread needs to be moved to the DVD-REWRITER section.

    http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/24957/tests/benq_ew1621.html
    from that review: Maximum rated DVD write speeds 16X DVD-R, 16X DVD+R, 2.4X DVD+R double layer, 4X DVD-RW, 4X DVD+RW

First of all your BENQ 1621 drive is ONLY rated to burn DL media at 2.4x speed which is why you're getting "FAILED TO WRITE SECTORS errors". No need to buy a new dvd burner because it can't burn at 4x speed for DL media. Burn it at 2.4x speed using ONLY VERBATIM DVD+R DUAL LAYER media. If that also fails as well then perhaps you may need to upgrade the firmware on the 1621 or it's time for you to buy a new dvd burner.

thank you budz, you probably got it wrong, as it is Benq EW 162i, rather than EW 1621...and i tried verbatim dvd+R DL for quite a few times, still failed. right now, i am not sure about if it's the disk quality or my burner problem...

This is your model and it can only burn at 2.4x spd for DL media.

Did you burn the VERBATIM DL at 2.4x or 4x? The speed will make a difference. Also USB external dvd burners can be finicky with burn speeds as well. Make sure you have programs running in the background disabled when burning. Antivirus and spyware programs should be disabled. If at 2.4x spd it still failed then buy a new dvd burner like the PIONEER 115 or 116.

Wanghiking, here is the question you have not answered: what burning software are you using? If it is Nero, Roxio....anything but ImgBurn, that may very well be the source of all your troubles. When we said only use ImgBurn and only burn on Verbatim discs, we were not just giving random opinions. It is based on the experiences of countless users on this site. Rarely does anything else work.

I am always using IMGBURN, as for the media, I had been trying several brands, but it seems even verbatim is not working well...

By the way, I am in Singapore, since my burner is proved to buy single layer ones perfectly, I would rather suspect the media rather than the burner...

Anyway, I tried Mitsubishi, Ritek besides Verbatim, and I know Ritek might be 2nd-rate, but Mitsubishi and Verbatim are both 1st-rate, right? Of course, it's my first time to buy DVD-R DL in SG, you know what, the online shopping system here is not that popular, so I went to IT malls, but what I got is proved to be inferior than I bought thru Amazon in the US...( I bought 20-pack Verbatim thru Amazon, never had any problems...)
