Seen a lot of people complaining that CapDVHS crashes under Vista...you using Windows Vista?

My only suggestion is to try updated drivers for your DVR.

Try the ones at the following link...he updates frequently.

PS : If you are using Vista and the updated DVR drivers don't work, you could try installing XP in VirtualPC (so you don't have to install XP as your main OS if you don't want to.) Then try using CapDVHS through XP in virtual PC.

  2. I'm running XP SP3. I updated to the latest drivers at the exdeus web site. The ones I were using were about three months older. No change. CapDVHS crashes right after I start capturing. I get a file but it is so short I can't really tell if it has problems. Using GraphEdit I can record as long as I want but the file has glitches. Here's a 10 second 1080i cap with GraphEdit:

I think capturing with GraphEdit simply starts saving the firewire stream whenever you start the cap -- ie, it doesn't sync with a key frame. So caps are always messed up at the start. Mpeg2Repair seems to clear that up but corruption through the rest of the video isn't fixed. Using VLC to play from the capture device shows the same problems.

I'll try using a VM as you suggest. Maybe something else in my system is interfering with the caps.

Thanks again for your input. And sorry for hijacking your thread!

Yah, I have no idea what else it could be. Sorry.

  4. Hey, alcOre, do you know of anyone actually using Virtual PC to capture via firewire? As far as I can tell it doesn't support firewire. Was it some other VM? I also have VirtualBox and it doesn't support firewire.
