Hi

My SKY box is about two years old and has never been connected to the phone line

do you think there will be an upgrade available and should I upgrade it?

he operating system version is 1.2S4FI and EPG software version is 3.6.4.18

Sky boxes update over the air, not by phone line. The only reason the line is used is to authorise payment for pay-per-view programs. The box picks up from satellite but without the phone line it has no way to send information back and therefore cannot confirm the card number being used.

If you are in doubt about the firmware version, put it in standby then pull the mains plug. Leave it for say 10 seconds to make sure the internal power supply has completely discharged then hold the standby button down while plugging it back in. Leave the button pressed until a screen appears with a warning not to switch off again until the warning is removed. Powering up with the standby button pressed forces an update from satellite whether it needed one or not.

how do I find out if i have the latest one installed?

I'm sure you have the latest version. The number may vary between different manufacturers of boxes but as long as it has been powered up for at least 24 hours, or you do the standby button trick you should be up to date.
The phone line is not used for updates at all, everything is done direct from satellite.
