My gal pal has a Light Scribe burner and wants to engrave a disc. However, the installed L.S. software won't comply. Can she etch a non L.S. disc with any available freeware out there?

So the disc is a plain old dvdr with a normal surface? Than the answer is no. If they are PRINTABLE dvdrs than you can use a printer that accepts printable dvdrs.
If they are plain old dvdr the only thing you can really do with them is use a plain old sharpee. Sorry.
of course you could always go and buy real lightscribe discs and COPY the data to it. Then you'll be able to use the lightscribe feature on the copied disc.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Lightscribe software ONLY works on Lightscribe discs. NO EXCEPTIONS.
I don't think "etch" is the correct word. This means "to cut, bite, or corrode with an acid or the like". Lightscribe simply uses a laser to print to a Lightscribe disc surface, but it's not a true etching process. -
