I have tried it. I purchased it directly from hauppauge. It is an ok tuner but if you want to do qam it doesn't work. I
worked with tech support for about 2 weeks and I finally wound up sending it back to them. I even tried the vista fiji
tv pack and it didnt work. I purchased the avermedia m780 and that does just as well and is cheaper. It has 2
tuners and both are hardware encoders and works fine for qam with the vista fiji qam. They may have gotten new
software for the hauppauge but as of 3 weeks ago it still wasn't working. I am told that the beta version of
beyond tv 4.9 will work with the qam but I wasn't able to find it for download since I am not a beta tester.
    Hope that helps.

  3. I have a hauppuage 1250 and its QAM tuner works with my cable system.

You should be aware that very few digital channels will be available via clear QAM -- typically those you can get via local over-the-air broadcast (required by the FCC). Most others are likely to be encrypted.

Also, note that QAM capture cards simply save the broadcast MPEG transport stream. You don't have any choice of bitrates or file sizes.

i don't have digital cable, only standard.. so lack of QAM shouldn't be a problem for me, correct?

Yes, you should be able to record via the analog cable tuners. Only premium subscription channels like HBO and Cinemax are likely to be encrypted.

  6. I tried, it is quite nice, but you need a cable to use it
