  1. When trying to convert movies I have encountered alot of problems with the sound becoming offtrack and end up with something like the old B rated Japanese movies where the words come out after the lips stop moving.

I am not very familar with audio codecs or any programs dealing with them. I was hoping some of you might have suggestions or recommendations.

The programs I usually use are.....

    Windows Movie Maker
    Movavi VideoSuite 3.4
    Super DVD Creator.

    Any suggestions?

Movies is not a very descriptive term. What format are these movies? What is the extension (xxxxx.ext)?

I changed your subject so it better describes the topic.

Yep, give us more information! What is the source and what are you converting to?

  4. Some generic suggestions.

Seperate the audio from the video as early in the process as possible.

Save the audio as a WAV file, eliminating VBR encoding which is the most common cause of this problem with downloaded movies.

VirtuadDub. Get it. Use it. You will find it a very valuable tool.

    Encode seperately.

Do not trust playback results from most software. Author into VOB files, play these from the hard drive before burning.

  5. Ok let me see if I can explain this. Bear with me.

My most recent project is a old tv series that I downloaded. The video clip I downloaded is in the avi format. The sound is fine with this first downloaded clip. Here is the properties listed for it when I right hand click on it.

    Audio

    Bit rate 131kbps
    Audio format MPEG Layer-3

    Video

    Frame rate 23 frames /sec
    Data rate 1222kbps
    video sample size 12 bit
    video compression XVID

Ok what I want to do is to burn it to dvd to be played on my tv. The program I normally use for this is Super DVD Creator. Even tho I do have the xvid codec installed for some reason this program did not recongize that video format. So what I did was to convert it to wmv format using the Windows Movie Maker. This is what the properties show for that version of the clip.....which the sound is messed up in it.

    Audio

    Bit Rate 1855 kbps
    Audio sample size 16 bit
    channels 2 stereo
    Audio sample rate 44kHz

    Video

    data rate 593kbps
    video sample size 24bit
    stream rate video 2

So what am I doing wrong and...... in laymans terms......correct it.

Thanks in advance to those who are trying to help me.

Just try use something better to convert to dvd like ConvertXtoDVD or the free DVD Flick. They should handle downloaded material much better then most crappy converters.

super is great program for many tasks

but I NEVER use it to create a DVD

depending, where the source avi's come from

they might be 23.976 fps or 25 fps, very unlikely they are 29.976 / 30 fps

so to convert for TV , extra frames are created during the process this messes with the conversion of the VBR MP3 sound track timing

if you want to use an all in one, try convertxTOdvd

    edited for clarity, remove typo

I've never even heard of the program Super DVD Creator, but it's main purpose appears to be DVD creation.
