  1. I want to get either “Acoustica” or “Sure thing”. I want to add my own jpeg photos as both Backgrounds and as an additional photo or photos, such as a collage, on the disk when I want to. The software supplied with my printer allows the background but not a picture on the disk. The options for text on the disk are also very limited. I know I can use the software to test them for a limited time but I’m looking for some input from the forum members.

The software that my printer came with is “Sure thing” but I’m sure it’s a cut down version. Which makes me wonder if the full version would be any better.

    And your printer is ???

Epson comes with "print cd" which dose allow for both.

    Nero cover designer.

Neato's Media face II dose the same but is not for printing directly to printable cds / dvds, although, depending on the printer and the back sheet feed area, you can create a template in which to hold the disc's in place for the purpose of printing to their surface.

You'd need to be handy in order to do that last part or end up just messing up the printer.

    And for freeware > http://www.afreecodec.com/cd-dvd-cover-print/

I've got the HP D5360, and the software it came with isn't great - probably the same yours came with. I decided rather than try to hunt down some good software that works with the printer, I just use Photoshop to design them, save them, then use the printing software and use the pic as a background. Works great.

I have the same printer. I got fed up with Epson and how often I was running cleaning cycles to clear clogged heads. Wasting ink too. I use my HP for pretty much DVDs only. I use Photoshop to do everything. I just use the shortcut to print to HP glossy when I print to TY water shield. I created another shortcut for non-glossy DVD. Plus the cool or not so cool thing about printing from PS is that there are no predefind print areas. That means you can print where there is no white area on the DVD....I found that out the hard way I had to wash the HP guide in soapy water to remove all the ink

You can also use the PS templates in the sticky (I need to upload a fixed version of 119x22 as that one is a little off center)

    Edit:
Uploaded new template for TY matte and watershield hub printables

BTW, I just printed my first watershield disc. WOW they turn out nice!
However I can see roller marks from the HP printer if I turn the disc at an angle

  7. I've used Photoshop for a long while editing photos with great success. I wouldn't know where to start designing a template. Old Dog. New tricks.

I have used SureThing Deluxe for long time with no problems in printing CD/DVD label on printable media and also very good results doing CD case labels

I created my own template for DVD labels using word as I wasn't happy with the ones supplied with SureThing

The very good thing about SureThing is the ability to alter the contrast, brightness, sharpness and basic resizing. It also does have the ability to add extra images and text frames as will and also text effects

I have had to change to Acoustica label printer as SureThing has decided to stop recognising my Epson R220 printer, but ONLY when I tell it to print direct disc labels, if I want to print on a sticky label say on an A4 sheets or CD covers its fine, but as I rely on it for direct printing as well I'm stuck at the moment so have had to change software until I work out what has gone wrong. Nothing I have tried has worked so far, and I have been using it with this printer for at least 3 years with zero issues and very good quality prints

Just remember to let it dry when printing direct to printable media, or you end up with a messed up label. 10 minutes is enough time before playing the CD/DVD without messing up your label

And I use generic inks and have done since I bought the printer, again with virtually 99% problem free, just teh occasionally dodgy cartridge but even brand cartridges suffer from this

    They're already created...

At least for some very common media used.

Just make sure the top layer is the original layer in the template. All your art work will be below.
    Hit print
    select properties for the HP
    select printing shortcuts
    select print on CD/DVD
    Select paper type
I use other inkjet printable for matte finish CD/DVDs (TY matte hub printables)
I use HP water-resistant for glossy finish CD/DVDs (TY Water shield hub printables)

  11. BTW, all the templates are 300dpi @1405x1405pix

Easy to change to what you want though.
