I am using a mwd2206 magnaox dvd player. I recorded a dvd using windows dvd maker. It works great on the computer but not dvd player. I converted it from a ts file to a mpeg. Any idea what I can do to fix this. I have read all over this forum and can not find an answer. Also i am taking the movie off a portable hard drive with usb connections. I may not know what to search for. Sorry ifthis has already been posted.

an mpeg recorded to a dvdr is not a "dvd". it's just a video file. you need to author the mpeg to dvd spec - vobs, ifos, and bups. they then need to be placed in a video_ts folder.

it may also be that the player doesn't like the brand of dvdr you used. some are pickier than others. try to stick to the best - verbatims or taiyo yuden.

I think the original poster may have been confused by the wording in MicroSoft's documentation?
DVD Maker in Windows Vista publishes directly to MPEG-2 format, enabling you to burn DVDs directly from your video camera.
    However, it also states:
Windows DVD Maker enables you to create professional-looking video DVDs of your home movies and photos that can be viewed on any DVD player.

ok. check the dvd with the computer when you get home. see if it has audio_ts and video_ts folders in the root directory or if the mpeg was recorded as file like video.mpg if it has the video-ts folder the problem is most likely a brand of dvdr that the magnavox doesn't like and can't read.

verbatim or taiyo yuden in the dvd-r type are your best bet.

I do not even know if I did it correctly. I have read how to do it but am not sure I understand completly. i am pretty sure it is not in a ts file. Does converting it using mpeg streamline change it?

  11. It's not, or at least shouldn't be, a ".ts", or Transport Stream, file, but it Should, and in fact Must Be, in a Video_TS Folder. This is a completely different thing.

At this point, you should do some basic reading in the What Is section, also browse some Guides. Reading several Guides will help a lot, various ones contained detailed explanations of certain processes and parameters, many will not yet make sense. BUT, after reading several, it will begin to come together.

Basically, video has to be arranged into very specific files and folders for the folder to be DVD-compatible. Creating an MPG is just the first step.

Let me put it another way. You know how French Fries are made right? But if you just take a whole potatoe and toss it into a deep fryer, you don't end up with French Fries, do you?
