I apologize ahead of time if this is in the wrong forum. I thought it would be here or hardware, but the hardware did not talk about cameras. Anyway, my question is I have a Canon ZR700 that records video in miniDV and a Digital Camera Lumix DMC-FX500 that records to MP4 in 720P. I'm really only doing simple editing like adding some subtitles here and there, cutting, joining, etc. Kind of like, how to do this tutorials. Is either format easier to edit in? And are there easy to use, preferrably free, software that I can do that? My coworker says he just uses his iMovie, but I do not have a Mac. Thanks!

You didn't say what output format you plan to use. Are you going to make a DVD? If so, MiniDV is much simpler with a wide range of tools to use. You will find 720P MP4 a major pain to use if you want to edit and make a DVD.

No I would not be making a DVD with it. More for posting on the internet on sites like Youtube, or sending them to friends on a Data DVD maybe, but I don't think it would be like a real DVD with menus and stuff.
