    Hi,

I possess a cablebox HD (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8455 DVB-C) and various video recorders S-VHS. But the problem and what this cablebox does not allow to take out in Video but in YPbPr, RGB, composite or HDMI.

I did not manage to find a schema to make a converter YPbPr towards Video. Converter RGBHV towards Video is expensive and I am not even on the quality of conversion. Thus I think of buying a Professional video recorder S-VHS with entry YpbPr but I do not find there.
The only model which I found it is Sony SVO-5800 but that has only an out YpbPr.
I would like to stay in VHS.
I also possess a video recorder W-VHS JVC which is equipped with an entry YpbPr but I reserve him for the HD.

Please help me to find the best solution.

    Thanks,

PS: excuse-me for my bad english.

Are you sure you can't configure the SCART output of that cable box for S-Video?

Here in the Netherlands one of our DTV providers is also using this Cisco/Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8455 cable box and it has the option to configure at least one of the SCART outputs for RGB/Composite and S-Video.

Alo you want that cablebox to output "video", you mean composite video (CVBS) or S-Video?
Almost every settopbox in Europe outputs RGB and composite video at the same time over the SCART outputs.

If you really need to convert the signal from that cablebox a alternative option would be to use a (cheap?) DVDrecorder.
Most of those devices can take the SCART RGB signal an convert it to composite/S-Video/component and even HDMI if you have a recent one.
Here I am using a older (gifted, repaired) Panasonic DVDrecorder for exact that same purpose.

    Yes I am sure.

My provider HDTV is “numéricable” and they installed them “OS” there which does not allow to select output S-Video on scart output.
Before, I possessed a cablebox not HD and it was effectively possible to configure the scart output in S-Video.
I called up them, but they did not foresee him, because considered too "obsolete".

But I have can be via the port USB it’s possible to modify “OS”?
    What do you think?
    Whom could I address?

I had not thought of the DVD to re-cord, it is a very good idea, but I am a follower of VCR and I do not think of buying it, but thank you.

    Stupid indeed.
Here even the cable company has crippled the HD component connection to only output PAL SD.

But at least the SCART (both) connections should output a normal composite signal (CVBS), you could use that to record to (S)VHS?
That output should still have enough quality for (S)VHS recording.

Firmware/OS updates for the cable boxes are normally broadcast with the DVB-C cable signal itself.
You can't change the OS/firmware yourself, specially not with the USB connection

No need to record to DVD directly ofcourse, you can use it only to convert the signal.
Why would you buy a very expensive VCR with YpbPr input?
I can see no good justification for that in these days.

Similar here, the YUV not containing a coding HDCP …
But there is small converter HDMI-YUV …

Yes but there is less interest to use one S-vhs if I use CVBS.

Expensively not, I look of the cheap occasion.
By pleasure for the beautiful material, the numeric does not really interest me.
I like very much the VCR mechanics , it's a passion!
I thought a BETACAM-SP VCR , there is of very beautiful machine, a little big
