http://www.fixya.com/support/t1221511-quantum_dlt8000_drivers_not_installing
Something strange going on with the installation of the drivers on my DLT8000. I'm able to use the xTalk program to run tests and stuff on the tape drive from windows so I know it's working properly. However, this is what the device manager says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
and it shows the little red exclamation point. Getting to this spot was difficult because of some issue with the INF file which (I guess) I was able to fix via this blog post:
http://www.loosewireblog.com/2006/07/how_to_fix_a_br.html
I added the [ClassInstall32] to the very end of the INF file that came with the downloaded drivers from the Quantum website. I was able to determine that the key name for this type of device is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{6D807884-7D21-11CF-801C-08002BE10318}
and sure enough, there is a subkey 0000 which contains all the info about my tape drive.
This is what my setupapi.log file is showing:
That #I163 error is probably what the problem is but I don't know what to do now... Any help is greatly appreciated.Code:#-199 Executing "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe" with command line: rundll32.exe newdev.dll,ClientSideInstall \\.\pipe\PNP_Device_Install_Pipe_0.{A270A48C-25F4-4B08-8975-00D9D0356FF2} #I060 Set selected driver. #-019 Searching for hardware ID(s): scsi\sequentialquantum_dlt8000_________0257,scsi\sequentialquantum_dlt8000_________,scsi\sequentialquantum_,scsi\quantum_dlt8000_________0,quantum_dlt8000_________0 #-018 Searching for compatible ID(s): scsi\sequential,scsi\raw #-166 Device install function: DIF_SELECTBESTCOMPATDRV. #W059 Selecting best compatible driver failed. The first error in that log is way up at the top:
#W059 Selecting best compatible driver failed. Error 0xe0000228: There are no compatible drivers for this device
Are you sure you have the correct driver package?

Hmm...strange. With my DLT hooked to a SCSI card, I never thought about any drivers other than the SCSI controller. I never loaded specific dlt drivers on any of the PCs that had DLT drives. With the SCSI card, the DVD mastering software was always able to locate the DLT drive.

You got errors out the Ying-Yang in that log file. Guess would be you got the wrong drivers, or they just don't work. Have you tried Quantum tech support, they make it and would be most likely to be able to provide correct answers.
Did the drive come with the card, or was it purchased seperately? Double-check cables, SCSI id's, synch and speed settings? -
Another question, do you have a 3 party backup program installed aka Veritas?
