  1. Hi
I've only done a couple of rips so far. Using Sefy's method I can get a good copy of the DVD's main movie. i don't know if my experince is normal but I get the main movie with no intro and none of the additional goodies found on the DVD. Is there a way to rip some of the special features from a DVD?

yes, that stuff is usually in the other vob files and is extracted the exact same way with the same tools...

Get the Title/Chapter and the length of the feature and that should help you locate that file on the dvd.

  4. hitech: I dont understand what you mean by "other vob files". I'll have to look at a dvd file structure more carefully next time but I thought thre usually are 4 or 5 vob files which smartripper "automatically" loads and decodes. Do you measn to say there is a separate directory with more vob files which are used for the "special features" only?

Feslmogh: do you mean the "special features" is already part of the maiin vob files and is already ripped by smartripper and I need to somehow locate and extract it? If so, how?

    thanks

for example, a movie fitting in three files, might be in files called:

    vts_01_1.vob
    vts_01_2.vob
    vts_01_3.vob

but the intro/menu will usually be in vts_01_0.vob, which SmartRipper knows to ignore by default. in the same directory, there may be other vob files, vts_02_1.vob, vts_03_1.vob, etc., actually containing the special features.

Hope this will make it a little clearer. When you open your DVD with smartripper, in the middle window it'll show you where it's getting the movie file from, including time.

If you notice there'll be + signs above and below the movie file itself. click on those (just like in Explorer) & that'll take you to the "extras" on the DVD.

Best thing is scan through your DVD with a DVD player to see what you want & how long each thing is. That way when you use smartripper you'll know by the time shown which one you're choosing.

  8. What I do is list the vob files on the DVD by size (it is immediately clear which are for the movie: at least four 0.99GB files following somewhere by the last that is somewhat smaller).
I make note of those "big" vob file that are not part of the movie (different numbering).
Make a playlist of them in WinDVD and play them - each vob file represents a chapter.
Quickly run through the chapters and note the chapter number I need.
Identify the vob file in the playlist using the noted chapter number.
