  1. Ok, here's the problem:

I've cut a Super VCD MPEG2 file down into two parts. Windows Explorer reports the size of part 1 as 676 MB (709,649,668 bytes). When I load up Nero, I choose Super VCD in the compilation info dialog box, make a menu (with a background image, etc) and then it sends me to the main window. I drag the MPEG file to the disc layout, and after a few minutes, the progress bar at the bottom of the screen goes to about 60 minutes (the actual length of the file, as reported by Windows Media Player, is 1 hour 10 seconds).

Going by that progress bar, the movie should fit on a 650mb CD (74 minutes). However, when I click "write" to burn the CD, it comes up as being 684mb in the top left corner of the burn window. Will this fit on a 650mb CD, or will I have to use a 700mb/80min one? Also, does Nero give a warning before it actually burns if the media you are about to write to is not large enough?

    Thanks.

    Hello doctor,

If you burn a VCD or SVCD, you can burn (rule of thumb) 740MB on a 74 min CDR, and 800MB on a 80 min CDR.
The reason is that for VCD and SVCD, just like with Audio CD, a sector size of 2352 bytes is used, while for a data CD only 2048 bytes fits in one sector. This means that you can store 2352/2048 times more data on a VCD than on a data CD, at the expense of data integrity (less error correction).

You could also have read that in one of the tutorials in this site (click AUTHOR on the left hand side).
