  1. Okay, I have a SVCD. The original bin file, which, alas, I no longer have, was 804 Mb. Now I want to make a copy of the SVCD. I figured it'd be just as easy as copying a VCD, which I've done countless times without problems, but apparently it's not that simple. Using Nero's copy CD option doesn't work. Neither does using VCDGear to try and make a .bin file of the mpg file (that little trick only works with VCD, I guess?), and saving the mpg file to the HD and burning that as SVCD doesn't work, either.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Oh, and yes, I use a 80 mins/700 Mb CD, so that can't be the problem. ;-)

Why doesn't it work? I have made copies of my SVCDs with Nero's copy CD option to my friends and they have worked ok. Maybe there's something wrong with your original CD (scratches, fingerprints ...) or maybe even a burning error (it's possible even if the SVCD work on your player)

  3. Think i have the same Problem:
    (Filesize ist *not* the matter)

Got an Big Holydaymovie (4 CDS) as *.bin and burnd it via Nero.
    Very Well.
Running well, perfect quality, great SVCD.
Deleted the Bins (only 8 Gig HD)

A friend of mine asked me if i could make a copy for him and...

    Nero complains reading:
"invalid track information" (!) (cant remember exact phrase)

    My solution would be:
Copy avseq01.dat do HD, rename to any.mpg, and create another
SVCD via Nero.(will Nero recode again?)

    OR:
Copy all to HD and burn...
No think, that could possibly cause Problems with Joliett/ISO
    Filenames / Conversions.

Somebody knows more handy Solutions ?

OK... except that my PC shows the file as a .mpg, not a .dat file... although I suspect there's not much difference. But I tried burning the mpg, and that doesn't work. Is there are any way maybe convert the mpg to a bin file? (Sorry if any of my questions sound silly, I'm a Macintosh user... PCs confuse the heck out of me. I was happy enough I figured out how to create VideoCDs, but SVCDs are still a mystery to me, even after reading all the FAQs.)
In any case, thanks very much for your help, both of you. :)

  5. Right theres not much different between dat and mpg.

I ask myself if there was some Copy Protection
    in the cue/bin Combi ?

I still wonder how Nero can burn the bin, but cant
    copy the Result...

Even better mpg is fine !
    No Recoding necessary.

    I've been told:
"There are no silly Questions, only silly answers..."
Create a new SVCD Project with Nero and pull the mpg into it.
    I'll try this after work...

I had the same problem with copying SVCD's I made from home videos. The only way I've gotten it to work flawlessly is to choose Image Recorder in Nero and burn an image of the disc in Nero's .nrg format. Then throw in a blank, choose Burn Image, select your .nrg and burn it. This has worked for me every time...YMMV.

    Hope this helps,

  9. ACK that does it.

But seems i am to dumb to create an ISO(Image) with Nero.

Did it with WinOnCD, sometimes a readerror at start, after retrying
    it works.
So do an Image, burn from Image -> Disk ready...
It works dut i dont understand completly why...

Now this is totally new for me. :-) I *think* I figured out how to make a .nrg file, at least Nero is doing something right now, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will work. Will report back in a few hours, regardless of how it turns out. In any case, thanks for the help!

Edit: Okay... Creating an image file turns out to work fine. BUT now there's a problem that I cannot burn the .nrg file. Nero complains there's not enough space on the CD-ROM disc to burn the file to, which I'm guessing has something to do with the fact that the file is over 800 Mb. That makes sense, the original .bin file is about 805 Mb, I think, but I could fit that on a 700 MB/80 min CD fine, as SVCD.
    So now what? :-(

OK. Lemme see if I understand you...

You have an SVCD that works fine in your player. It's burned to an 800MB CDR and you're wanting to copy that to another 800MB CDR, correct?

Well, it says it's a 700 Mb/80 mins CD, but yes, in essence, yes, that's it. It shouldn't be so hard, but argh, it just won't work! :-(

See my reply to topic http://www.vcdhelp.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=79333. It's worth seeing it, while there exists a program that copy's everything !

    Dallista,

I'm at a loss. You're at the point I was at when trying to do a simple CD to CD copy and it wouldn't go. That's when I tried the image recorder trick and it's worked without fail for me.

Seems to me that it should be able to write to an identical-capacity medium without any hassle, but hey, I just do what my computer tells me to do...

    hehehe

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Regards,

  15. :-( Thanks for the help, anyway. I'm at a loss, myself. I gave the CDs to a friend, whose husband is more of an expert in this sort of thing than me, and hopefully he'll be able to figure it out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and otherwise I'll give that CD clone thing a try when I have the CDs back. ;-)

One last resort if you can't get the disc to copy...

If the SVCD works in your player, dub it off to a VCR and then reencode. I've only had to do this once (before I tried copying to an .nrg file) and I lost a little quality, but it did work...
